AIBU if I ask debenhams to come and collect excessive packaging?

Have just received a 41-piece dinner set from debenhams by courier. EVERY SINGLE item in its own box plus copious amounts of paper or bubble wrap. The resulting waste fills my not-particularly-small kitchen. Despite all of this, I still have 7 broken items that the courier has to come and collect anyway. Am I within my rights to return all the packaging too? I have heard that you can leave excess packaging in supermarkets after you've paid for the products as it's their responsibility to get rid. Does anybody know if this applies to online purchases?

I'm not sure if it applies to purchases made online, but the responsibility to return the packaging lies with you, so you'd have to take it to Debenhams. I doubt that theywould then refuse tto take it.

I would wrap all the broken bits in all the excess packaging so the courier takes it away!

We had a new washing machine from John Lewis and DS1 wanted the box for a project at school. When we got home, the lovely men from JL had taken all the packaging away with them. DS was not impressed - but we were! Grin

Nice idea snowflake! Dd is desperate to "make" things with the millions of boxes now clogging our garage. I think the lesson learned is jl over debenhams every time!
The irony is that new dinner service may not fit in the dishwasher so the whole lot may have to go back Sad

Snow flake? Sorry snow fairy for appalling lack of attention to detail on my part

Before you send the whole thing back for not fitting in your dishwasher you should check if the top rack can be moved upwards. Most of them have some sort of a catch at the end of the rails which means you can take the whole thing out and move it up and inch or two.

I would imagine the courier would be able to take away the excess packaging assuming it is a debenhams delivery service and not an external courier who will only collect what they have been told to collect.

I work in a shop and we overly package everything up as when we use an external courier 8 times out of 10 we get a complaint of damage.

Queen Stromba unfortunately the not-fitting-ness is widthways, but it just about works with clever stacking so we're going to live with it! Lj it's an external courier and I can totally understand from the way he was carrying the parcels why there's so much packaging. I think he must have been playing rugby with some of the parcels looking at the amount of damage he caused! Am taking the broken stuff (plus bootload of excess packaging) back to the store tomorrow. I'll post how I get on...
