My DH says it is unreasonable as 3-4 should be sufficient - I say he is BU - Mumsnet jury return the verdict please

Are you my husband?

Anja1Cam · 16/06/2013 21:15

Wow some amazing lists here. off the top of my head even our boring fridge manages the following, even if not all of them might count as cheese to the purist:
mature cheddar
Gouda
(cottage cheese)
(quark)
cheddar with chilli
Bavarian smoked
parmesan
Philadelphia-type
Babybel...
processed cheese with ham in tube (name escapes me)

we finished the brie today...

So YANBU definitely

lyrasdaemo · 16/06/2013 21:25

Holy moo, thought how can you have seven types of cheese at once, then counted ours, erm, seven

Parmesan
Grana Padano
Manchego
Cheddar
Soft cheese
Mexican
Emmenthal

And some quince jelly

:-D

manchestermummy · 16/06/2013 21:25

So very Envy. All we have is mature cheddar and Laughing Cow. Not fair.

None of you have any white Stilton on your list. For shame.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 16/06/2013 21:34

Lyra I love quince jelly.

CBA to get up off the sofa and actually look, but from memory we have:

Cheddar medium
Cheddar mature
Irish Stout cheddar
Feta
Stilton
Dolce latte
Port Salud
Brie
Philly
Cheese strings (the height of sophistication)
Bavarian smoked cheese
Emmenthal
Gouda

lustybusty · 16/06/2013 21:38

You're all making me want cheese now!! I have only cheddar, and that's not even in the fridge, it's grated (by me, not the minging pre grated stuff) and in the freezer (bloody theiving housemates don't think to look in the freezer for cheese! Grin)
Also introducing me to new cheeses... Cheddar with picked onions you say? A ploughman's in a bite... Looks like I'm off to sainsbo's! And did someone mention laughing cow with blue cheese? Where might I buy this and how has it passed me by?
OP YADDDDNBU!!

Liara · 16/06/2013 21:42

YADNBU. But then again half our fridge is full of cheese. We not only have lots of different types, we also have lots and lots of it.

Fortunately a lot of the cheese we buy keeps really well or would if it got the chance to.

One of the reasons we moved to France was the cheese...

Laughing Cow blue cheese is brill and I am also intrigued by the cheese with onions already in it - genius. Nice to see another Blacksticks Blue fan, EMUZ - I love that stuff.

UniS · 16/06/2013 23:35

YANBU

Think its only 4 kinds in my fridge currently.
Stilton, cheddar, Mozzarella, Parmesan.

We have used up all the cheap cheddar ( cooking cheese) and Brie already .

UniS · 16/06/2013 23:39

Also have butter ( cooking) Butter (spreading) , dairy free spread ( for DS's dairy intolerant mate) , and clotted cream ( for spreading on scones).

I like to have specialsed dairy products for different uses.

poorpaws · 16/06/2013 23:53

Mmmmm so am I the only one with absolutely NO cheese in my fridge then?

Daughter left home 2 years ago and I've not had any cheese in it since (nor any butter, margarine etc). I love cheese.

Bunnyjo · 17/06/2013 00:09

Currently we have in our fridge:
Halloumi
Feta
Philadelphia
Mature Cheddar
Applewood Smoked
Brie
Stilton
Vintage Cheddar
Roquefort

and I didn't think we had much cheese in there at all Blush

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 17/06/2013 03:42

Amateur. Albeit a completely reasonable amateur. We currently have:

Two different types of cheddar
Stilton
Ossau Iraty
Manchego
Saint Vernier
Pont L'Eveque
Gruyere
Caerphilly
Wensleydale with apricots
Wensleydale with cranberries
Feta
Parmesan
Black pepper Boursin
Philadelphia
Primula (for the dog's Kong)

mumbaisapphire · 17/06/2013 04:45

Currently in our fridge we have
Pecorino Romano
Double Gloucester
Brie
Danish blue
Italian style cheddar made by Americans (feel like I was duped into buying it by the lady in the supermarket who said it was Italian)
Northern Greek feta

We live in Canada where cheese requires a second mortgage. It is so expensive I openly weep in the supermarket at the price tag. A standard block of mature 3 year old cheddar would cost $15/$16 which is £10. I still have to have cheese though!

BikeRunSki · 17/06/2013 05:58

Less excitingly

Mature Cheddar
Low fat Cheddar
Philly
Dairylea
Edam
Babybel
Bavybel light
Cheesestrings
Cottage cheese

Longdistance · 17/06/2013 06:08

We have

Stilton
Smoked
Cheddar
Chilli cream cheese
Cheese triangles
Camembert

This is off the top of my head.
We often have a cheese night and our dds 2 and 4 join us for cheese, biscuits, pickles.
They love it.
Normally they have dinner and then join us :)

Lizzabadger · 17/06/2013 06:55

Cashel blue
Edam
Gruyere
Brie
Cheese spread
Philly light
Halloumi
Some weird cow/sheep/goat stuff
Oh dear

Nokidshere · 17/06/2013 07:33

Blimy, obviously none of you is skint then!!! That's a pretty expensive stock of cheese for lots of you!

Nokidshere · 17/06/2013 07:40

Oh and we have..

Half a chunk of Parmesan
Half a pack of cheddar
1 Dairy lea triangle
Some emmental
And something beginning with T but I can't remember the name and can't be arsedvto get up to look

JollyShortGiant · 17/06/2013 07:45

We don't have much. Just Stilton with Mango and Ginger, and Cheddar.

We often have mozzarella, parmesan and spreading cheese.

Am pregnant just now so no Brie, Camembert etc because I do the shopping and I'm not buying food I can't eat.

I'm always surprised when people let children chow down on a plate of cheese.

Might as well spoon a few piles of salt into them.

bedmonster · 17/06/2013 09:30

He also just said food shouldn't be used for pleasure - should I LTB!!

So I take it he eats the same thing for breakfast lunch and dinner every day then? He is BU and a bit mental about the cheese!

We currently have...

Cheddar (extra mature)
Brie
Philly with chilli
Philly normal
Stilton (DPs, bleurgh)
Parmesan
Manchego
Boursin
Goats cheese round thing, runny and delicious
Halloumi
Feta

Never realised we are such a cheese loving family. A lot of those go in the cooking, rather than to eat with crackers or whatever, but we all really like cheese. And I haven't even had my shopping delivered this week - there are 2 more cheeses coming this afternoon, which will bring our total to 13!

WyrdMother · 17/06/2013 09:34

Only 6 in the fridge at the mo

Cambozola
Manchego (sp? can't find the label)
Bavarian Smoked
Cheddar
Edam
A tiny, tiny bit of Binham Blue which I would recommend to anyone who can get their hands on it, it's lush.
