to have squeezed in when this person parked over 2 spaces

Got to the shop to find all the spaces in the small car park gone. Except for one in which was a huge mercedes parked over two spaces. I've got a reasonably small car and managed to squeeze in but it left no room for opening the drivers door on the car parked over two spaces. Checked for disabled badge/evidence of baby etc and found nothing so left my car there. There was easily 3 ft of space on the other side and there arer always plenty of disabled bays that were empty.

A (able bodied) lady arrived back as I was walking off and started screaming "what idiot has parked like that! I cant get into my car now!" I said Me. She told me I'd better bloody move my car now etc or she would hit it on purpose. I said go ahead (I have an ancient polo that is bright purple) it will be your merc covered in purple paint, not mine!

After my shop she had moved the car with no evidence of any hitting.

WIBU? Or was she BU for parking over 2 spaces?

Why didn't you say 'what idiot parked over two spaces?'

If you were within the lines you were fine.

morefalafel · 15/06/2013 14:49

I was actually very pleased with my parking. Completely within the lines Grin

Ha ha ha, nice one. Grin Yes, yes, probably rather petty of me, but I'm fine with that. Grin

titan · 15/06/2013 14:50

V funny. And YANBU.

DramaAlpaca · 15/06/2013 14:52

Good for you. Silly woman might be more considerate in future.

Feelslikea1sttimer · 15/06/2013 14:53

I would have laughed and then maybe videoed her getting into her car and if she hit you then told her you would go to your insurance company (I wouldn't have actually done this with insurance but I like to wind people up occasionally!)

People shouldn't be allowed big cars until they pass a big car parking test!

FeckOffCup · 15/06/2013 14:53

I always want to do that when I see some entitled fucker take 2 spaces but I'm not good enough at parking to squeeze in without damaging the cars.

Raum · 15/06/2013 14:53

I do this with my little aygo whenever possible :-) well done OP

AKissIsNotAContract · 15/06/2013 14:55

She was unreasonable, she should learn to park properly.

SusuwatariToes · 15/06/2013 14:56

The drivers side handle doesn't work in my car, I always have to use the passenger door and scooch over. I would have suggested she do that.

"I said go ahead (I have an ancient polo that is bright purple) it will be your merc covered in purple paint, not mine!"

:o

What a hero!

I can't believe she threatened to hit your car on purpose.

morefalafel · 15/06/2013 15:01

Well there was more to the conversation but I didn't detail it fearing it would make me seem more unreasonable.

Her 'How will I get in?'
Me 'Climb over???'
Her 'Shock'
Me 'Hahahahaha'
Her 'Im going to hit your car then!!!'
Me 'Do it, the mercedes paint will increase the cars value Im sure'

Then I walked.

YWNBU - you did the right thing :)

I have had two parking 'incidents' this week.

The first one was when I parked in a P&T space. There are two spaces together with walls on the outside of the two spaces with a wide 'middle' bit. | AxxB |

livinginwonderland · 15/06/2013 15:16

The advantages of having a small car! YANBU OP, well done!

Talkinpeace · 15/06/2013 15:20

Ah, OP, you've met my mother then.

lydiamama · 15/06/2013 15:23

I liked your answer when she threaten to damage your car, I would probably chicken out at that. She was the unreasonable one of course

Elesbe · 15/06/2013 15:25

Oh chipping do tell about the bloke on the A30. Please.

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 15/06/2013 15:41

Elsbe Just for you.

A 30 at the top of Camberley. It's 2 main lanes, with 3 at the 'top' lights. I was in the RH lane which goes both right and straight ahead... the car in front went so I started to follow then realised the light was still red - he'd seen the green ARROW to go right and gone straight through the intersection.

I though - 'Jesus, that was lucky, he'll have given himself a real fright. Fucking stupid thing to do, but we all make mistakes' etc.

About half a mile later I'm in the lane next to him, no cars in front of either of us at all for a good quater a mile or more and he stops DEAD (thank god I wasn't behind him, because technically it would have been my fault if I'd hit him, but who stops DEAD in the middle of the A30??). He stopped because there's a painted bit across the road saying not to block that bit of road (it's the turning into McDonalds) Hmm. (Do you get what I mean??).

I'm eye rolling and wondering what kind of an idiot is driving that bloody car by now... answer, an average looking bloke of around 60 years of age.

THEN we get down to near a major roundabout (the Meadows if you are familiar with the area) and starts to pull into my lane.... a great shame that there is a row of traffic already in it... Shock... a lot of beeping and he narrowly missed the car infront of me.

I mean 3 incidents in under a mile. He THEN proceeded to hold up all the traffic, pull across about 3 lanes and go left along to Watchmoor park...

I was going to report him as I was worried he was going to cause an accident - but by the time I'd got somewhere I could use my phone I'd forgotten his number plate. I feel awful that I didn't report him because if he causes an accident I'll be partly to blame. He had someone else in the car, looked to be his son maybe (bloke in about his 40s) who didn't seem remotely terrified...?

arabesque · 15/06/2013 15:42

Fair play to you OP. I hate it when people with fancy cars comandeer two places to avoid getting scratched and have often been very tempted, when the car park is full, to squash in beside them.

Elesbe · 15/06/2013 15:50

Thanks Chipping, what a nightmare driver! And well done for avoiding him. Not sure that the police would have been much help though. My DH was driving with DS as passenger when they witnessed a car deliberately go the wrong way around a central bollard. Phoned police who said they couldn't do anything until two people witnessed an event and were willing to come forward. Apparently two people in the same car doesn't count as you may be trying to discredit other driver!

plainjaney · 15/06/2013 16:03

I did it on the Doctors car park a few months back, spaces are always a premium there. The only space left was tiny because some bloke in an espace had decided to park over 2 spaces.
My car is a battered 14 year old clio and was small enough to fit, I'm reasonably skinny so could get out so I parked there.

I was still sat in the drivers seat checking my phone when he came back ranting and raving about how was he supposed to get in. I said that perhaps if he parked it properly then he wouldn't have the issue. In the end I said as I was still in the car I'd pull forward and let him in. More ranting and raving ensured. I then told him if he didn't shut up and get in the car within the next ten seconds I was going and he could get himself in through the sunroof for all I cared. He got in very quickly and drove off Grin

ChippingInWiredOnCoffee · 15/06/2013 16:08

Elsbe - I hoped they might find him and follow him - they'd only have to do it for 5 minutes before something happened they could pull him over for I'm sure! (What number should you ring??)

PJ Well done!!
