AIBU?

..to be narked that our neighbour, having finally erected a brand spanking (and much over-due) new fence, has cut a cat-hole in it so they can continue to come and s*it in our garden?

The cats, not the neighbours.

Agree , put something your side . However cats can climb and have made a mess of our fences

Breatheslowly makes a good point your meant to put holes in fences / dig a trench under for hogs.
But if its for the cat yanbu at all!

Talk about making life easy for their cats!

As everyone else suggests, put something in front, but cat will climb up the fence to shit in your garden if it wants too.

We have a cat and have told the neighbours that they are welcome to get us to remove any shit our cat had deposited... Knock on their door and get them to do the same.

I'd use the hole to throw the cat shit back through. Wing it through like a bowling ball.

I'm a cat owner and I think that's outrageous. I also, fwiw, wouldn't give two shits if you wanted to supersoak my cat every time she went near your garden.

Your garden, your right to attempt to keep it free of animals you don't want, to a certain extent.

that is pretty outrageous! As a cat lover I get really embarrassed by my cats leaving the garden, though only my bad cat does now. If bad cat came home wet I would have absolutely no issue with that. As long as you dont use a power washer spray away!

Never mind super soakers. It's time for escalation.

I have three cats (that seem to poo in the woods thank goodness) but my neighbours know I am happy for them to use a water pistol if they don't want my cats coming in their garden (super soakers have an incredible range) - my 13 year old cat can still get over a six foot fence with ease!
It is bad of them to put a cat flap in - even if the fence is on their side of the boundary it is still giving access into your property. I like the idea of a mini fence in front of the cat-flap - like those ankle high edging fences you can get from B&Q - it only has to be just higher than the bottom of the cat flap to make it jam!

I have a cat.

I would advocate blocking the hole with large pot, and if it gets over, water pistol every time you see it.

That is fecking ridiculous behaviour on their part

Cut a turd shaped hole in their front door so you can post it back to them.

The people who used to live behind me did this in an existing fence (not even sure if the fence actually belonged to them) because their daft but expensive cat couldn't work out how to get over it and kept getting lost.

They did fix it when we complained, and have moved now with their daft cat.

Cheeky fevers, put a ruddy big cacti in front of it Grin

Get a dog that just loves chasing the cats through holes in fences , the twatty neighbours will soon have it covered in . Job done !

Report
Sallyingforth · 14/06/2013 18:41

Don't fix anything to the fence as suggested above. That's criminal damage. But certainly put your own obstruction in front of it. A board would do the job. If you put a plant in front it might suffer from weedkiller.

thanks all for the reassurance! i did wonder about hedgehogs but the hole is above the foot-high concrete gravel board, so the hedgehogs would have to scale that to get through the hole - it must be for their cats. All of which (whom?) seem capable of leaping over the fence anyway so i am still puzzled. Am investigating cacti now... although that water cannon looks freakin amazing.

If its their fence you are not allowed to cover the hole with board/trellis or such like, but you can plant whatever you like and you are allowed to erect another fence there alongside it if you wish

I too would be using the hole to deliver the poo back to their garden

unbelievable cheek

My lovely neighbour used to throw all his fag ends into my garden. One day when heavily pregnant I decided to collect them all up in a bag, knock on his door and give them back to him.
It didn't happen again, maybe you could do that with their cat shit?

Ahhh - yes it might be for hedgehogs (they can in fact climb short stone walls) - there has been quite a bit recently on creating interconnected gardens to allow hedgehogs safe passage through their territories. (see www.hedgehogstreet.org)

Ditto prickly plant.

Or big plant pot, rock, statue.

Sprinkler!Grin

Trellis.

Net bag full of orange peel, they don't like the smell.

Are they the sort of people you can ask? You could put up another fence or that stuff that looks like reed and comes as a roll?

If you put a plant there, will they just cut another hole?

How bizarre though.

You could tell them you have had to put slug pellets in your garden so they will have to prevent their cat from entering (sneaky).

primallass · 14/06/2013 19:28

I would hammer a board a cm away from it into the ground.
