To GPS my cat and go and speak to the neighbour?

I own a very large ginger Tom cat. He is supposed to be on a diet but comes home licking his lips and smelling of food. And also, often,
cigarette smoke Grin
I bought a "cat nav" device for him (v small USB thing which attaches to his collar). I have used it three times now and downloaded the data and it shows him going into a house about 8 doors down and not moving for an hour.

AIBU to go and speak to them and ask them to stop feeding him? I wasn't planning on telling them about the GPS device... Grin

Or would you leave it?

I am aware this post reads like I am a mad woman, btw. I promise I am sane. I just can't bear the patronising vet telling me he will get type 2 diabetes if he doesn't lost weight Hmm

If he's not already microchipped, get him chipped so he's registered to your address. Then put a tag or notice of some sort on his collar saying "do not feed - vet-prescribed diet".

If you want to avoid confrontation (I'm guessing you're not a criminal lawyer!) you could also make a little flyer with a photo of your cat and pop it through your immediate neighbour's doors, in a joky "Hi, I'm LongGoneCat from Number 74. My owner has finally cottoned on to the fact I spend half my time hanging round other people's houses begging for food. Unfortunately I'm borderline diabetic so this is very bad for me. My owner has told me to politely ask you to ignore my 'starving kitty' impersonation and send me back home for my special medicated diet. Thanks"...sort of way.

Or you could, you know, woman up and say "please stop feeding my cat, he's greedy not hungry and it's making him ill".

Once found my cat eating a raw sausage in my kitchen on a Sunday late morning........I didn't have any sausages..........:o

Just imagined some poor person cooking up their Sunday Brunch and wondering where their sausage went.

Also many years ago I got called by an upstairs neighbour one morning as she was cat phobic and she'd got up to find a cat sitting on top of her tv. She called me as she knew I had cats and wouldn't be frightened. It was a bit awkward because it was my cat that was in her 2nd floor flat - it had climbed up the walls and n her window. Blush

Soon Grin that made me laugh!

I'm not a criminal lawyer no....! The generic note is a very good idea. Damn, I wish I hadn't gone over!

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 17:28

MrsDeVere oh my god. That is horrible!! ... And they just called their next cat Barney, too? Loons.

I wanted a dog, but work too long hours Sad. Enormous cat was a compromise. Bloody love him though.

I remember one of my uncle's cats coming home once with a large, unopened packet of smoked salmon.

soontobeslendergirl · 14/06/2013 17:32

..I never had the guts to ask her if she'd ever lost a sausage to the phantom sausage napper :(

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/06/2013 17:33

MrsDV that's awful! Cat-napping!

LGBD you could still do the generic letter but for the one daft neighbour in particular you could just add a handwritten note "Thank you for earlier - I have discovered yours is not the only house he is frequenting!" or something.

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 17:38

I uploaded a pic of him here Grin

Loving the CatNav Grin

I have to say that before opening the thread, I read the title and thought good on you for wanting to speak to your neighbour face to face.

I don't know what's wrong with people nowadays, it seems everyone prefers to push notes through doors (as you've been advised to do lots on this thread) instead of just speaking to people.

Good luck and I hope the little git loses some weight Grin

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 17:40

Also this is his worst angle Sad here

I think my FatCat is similar in size :o. He's not really fat though (yet - could easily tip over the edge into fatness), just fecking enormous.

HeyLuciani · 14/06/2013 17:41

This thread has reminded me of my friends dog. They lived on a farm when they were kids and one of their dogs was a scruffy (and very spirited!) terrier. One day this dog had disappeared.........he was later found at verrrry posh house in the village, shagging the owners on-heat poodle on THEIR BED! Grin

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 17:42

Thank you worra, that was my intention. Think a note might be ignored. He's out again (with cat nav on) so will peruse where he's been soon...

Oh, the sausage story upthread has brought back memories of one of my cats...I'd tried to block it out...!

He came flying over our fence with his prize. A very large salami type sausage. Not long after he went away and came back with a rack of ribs Blush Someone was obviously having a BBQ. I was horrified but didn't know where he was getting his fare from so just locked the thieving git up in the house. He is a sly, slinky ninja like cat and by rights should be obese byt he's a skinny little sod.

He spent the rest of the evening glaring at us. Obviously plotting to kill us.

HeyLuciani · 14/06/2013 17:44

Lovely pics of your cat btw.......... he is a big lad, your neighbour must be crackers if she thought he might be hungry!

Hassled · 14/06/2013 17:48

He is a good lounger, isn't he? He has it down to a fine art.

catsmother · 14/06/2013 17:53

What an absolutely gorgeous cat!

Hope you can get neighbour on side soon - I'd hate to lose any of mine, but especially if their diet needs regulating . Very irresponsible too if they're giving him cows milk as it could upset his stomach badly .

I get a cat coming regularly into mine - but shoo him away as I know he has an owner up the road. Unless a cat is obviously neglected or ill I think that's the right thing to do.

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 18:04

Well he did have a dodgy stomach for the first few months of getting him, but then he started pooing outside so am blissfully unaware of it now Grin (hope in her garden......)

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 18:04

Thank you re pics. He is a handsome chap. I don't want to lose him! Hmm

Northernlurker · 14/06/2013 18:05

One poster on here had their cat appear in the garden with a joint of roast beef I think. Might have been a ham. Now that was tricky......

LongGoneBeforeDaylight · 14/06/2013 18:13

My childhood cat brought home a bag of half-defrosted cheese and pickle sandwiches Grin
