to think hearing about other people's holidays can be very boring

I don't mean a quick description - the weather was great, our hotel was lovely, you wouldn't believe how nice genuine Mexican food is, kind of thing.

But I just feel my eyes glazing over when people start telling me about every castle and museum they visited; go into great detail about the culture of wherever they were; and basically give me a blow by blow account of the entire holiday.

Thank God with digital cameras you are no longer handed three wallets bulging with photographs of 'That's me on the beach' ,'That's Paul on the beach', 'That's me and Paul on the beach', 'That's the restaurant we went to every night', 'That's the couple from Glasgow we met on the plane going over'

AIBU to think that people talking about their holidays can be really, really boring.

Ithaca. I think we have the same mum!

Oblongata · 14/06/2013 16:37

Oh dear I might be a bit guilty of this Shock Grin I'm not too sorry though.
Last holiday I went on, one person decided she absolutely loathed me, so I tend not to talk too much about it Sad but also Grin as it was quite funny by the end.

Triumph how very dare you have to ask, of course it was. Hmm

Zukie My parents like to share holiday photos too. They go on 4 holidays a year. Usually to the same 4 places. "Oh look - it's that funny fountain that you photographed last year. And the year before. And the year before."

They are nice though (and pretend to listen when I tell them dozens of dull dd stories) so I let them get away with it.

OutragedFromLeeds · 14/06/2013 20:03

YANBU, but it's not just holidays, it's boring hearing every detail about any aspect of other people's lives imo (that's why I'm rubbish at small talk).

OutragedFromLeeds · 14/06/2013 20:09

Although, as boring details of other people's lives go, I don't mind holidays too much because you might at least get an idea of where to go in the future.

Yanbu. I find holiday snaps boring too. Don't care what the grand canyon looks like from a helicopter tbh. It's just rock.

OwlinaTree · 14/06/2013 21:55

Digital has made it worse tho. Now instead of an album of maybe 200 pics, its 1000 on a memory card!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/06/2013 22:33

YANBU. My friend has just got back from her finca in Spain. Cue 457 pictures of the same view, with either her or her DH standing in shot, which are identical to the 396 we saw lsat time she went away! Confused

ImagineJL · 14/06/2013 22:44

OP was it you who went on a weekend with group of friends recently, and one wanted to bring her daughter? Sorry to hijack thread but what was the end of that story?

ImagineJL · 14/06/2013 22:50

Never mind I've found the original thread!

I agree, no one is interested!

YABU. It's delightfully retro. Far, far nicer than Facebook drones.
