To just not get clothes sizes?!!

I mean really! I know a size 14 is different in every shop on the high street, I'm not that daft. I ordered two pairs of jeans from a shop I am slightly addicted to and generally they never let me down. On this occasion I ordered these 2 pairs in exactly the same size, in exactly the same jean, exactly the same design, name, length etc. the only thing different was the colour. One fit like a glove (in fact would have perhaps preferred a teensy bit tighter) the other pair was at LEAST 2 sizes too small. As in can't even try the lying on the bed trick too small. The labels are EXACTLY the same so why because of a sodding colour does one pair fit and the other make me feel like a stress ball in a rubber band?
I know IABU to get so pissed off by this but I just can't see how this happens. It's been a crap week and I just wanted some retail therapy!

I think its good there are different varieties for sizes (within reason), as I am more likely to find at least one shop that fits me properly. Not all women will fit one exact model of 14, 16, 18, etc.

WinterWinds · 13/06/2013 18:31

Yes but that doesn't explain why the 2 pairs of the exact same jeans bought at the same time from the same place, (the only difference being the colour) are different sizes.

You expect a variation of sizes in different shops but not when they are both manufactured and sold by the same company.

YANBU

This has happened to me when I have bought two items from the same shop.

I now carry a tape measure around with me.

ShabbyButNotChic · 13/06/2013 18:40

Yanbu! The clothes in my wardrobe (that all fit!) span size 14 to 22!! Its daft, and infuriating! Which is why when i found jeans that actually fit my freaky body of long body stumpy legs fat arse (dotty p i love you!) i bought 6 pairs at once, all in different colours. Was going to just buy them assuming they would be the same, then my friend wanted to see them on so tried and the black ones were too small! Just bought a size bigger cos im not bothered but can imagine how disheartening it would be if you actually were dieting etc!

piratecat · 13/06/2013 18:43

prob just labelled wrongly?

piratecat · 13/06/2013 18:45

also it might be the case with dark dye that jeans would shrink with dyeing process.

This happens with bras. If you buy two bras the same, one black, the black one will feel snugger.

GrottlesofGrog · 13/06/2013 18:50

Shabby yes my size range is all over the place and quite infuriating. With jeans I generally buy a size bigger anyway just cos I know they will have more room and comfort
And Piratecat I'm sure (hope) they are as have inspected thoroughly with a tape measure and they are a hefty chunk of inches in difference. Seethe. I wish I was bolshy enough/had the time of day to go into the shop and complain at the ridiculousness of it but I will resign myself to sending them back with a PA 'sized incorrectly note'.

I buy my jeans from a well known American chain. Everytime I need some I order three pairs in exactly the same size as the fit varies so wildly - one pair I'll be able to get my fist in the waist and are ankle swingers, another will drag on the floor...one might actually fit! All same waist, same length, same colour...

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/06/2013 19:05

Very weird but kwym. Brought black pair from dotty p - fit beautifully - so went in and brought size size style etc but in blue and couldn't get past my thighs :(

makemineamalibuandpineapple · 13/06/2013 19:05

In Oasis, I have clothes ranging from an 8 to a 12. Their sizing just seems completely random.

LucilleBluth · 13/06/2013 19:24

Oh yes. I find the more expensive the item the smaller the fit, generally speaking. I can be a 10 in Sainsbury's and a 14 in a posh shop.........all shops are posher than Sainsbury's granted Grin

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 13/06/2013 19:24

Is this Next?

I've had the exact same problem.

Buying clothes is now a mental obsticle course.

Hmm
orangeandemons · 13/06/2013 19:34

Clothing technologist here...

Different fabrics respond differently to different dyes. They all go through lots of different processes which changes the tension of the fabric. Even when they start off with the same fabrics. Darker colours often come up smaller due to the dye filling any spaces, thereby having less give in them. However, this should all be accounted for when the garments are being sampled and should have been picked up in Quality Control. Unfortunately no one seems to care much about QC any more, and just try and get away with what they can, as the costof pulling a style off the shop floor is horrendous.

They will just come back with the crap about no one else complaining, but I know you see [ wink], and love getting involved in technical discussions which they can never answer[ grin]

I bet it's Next you are talking about. Don't think they know what QC means anymore

DressageCriminal · 13/06/2013 20:14

It was Next which I was referring to.

Clearly they have a reputation for this.

GrottlesofGrog · 13/06/2013 22:48

Unfortunately it was River Island who I know are a faddy fashion place anyway but I do like (some) of their jeans and generally their sizing is always spot on for me be it tops, dresses or jeans. Don't even get me started on Next though. I have had to buy a size 20 (normally a 14) to even get a comfortable fit but it still would mean a night of standing upright breathing in.
