To not take this house.

Last year I was offered a house, very nearly gave money to the LL but he last min decided to not let me have the house and gave it to someone else. I begged him to let me have it, he said no because the rent would come from the council. (Housing benefit) I work now & pay my own rent etc. A friend just told me that that same house is on offer again and that the LL will offer it to me. WIBU to say no to the house after the last time? He made it difficult last time to view the house, ask questions & answer concerns I had. I do like the house I'm in & I have a great LL, but I always did love that house and still do. I just don't think it's worth going for if he made things difficult before.

YANBU - A bad LL can make even the best home a nightmare.

SoupDragon · 13/06/2013 07:12

Do you think he is going to be a difficult landlord throughout your tenancy? That would be a big negative.

rainbowslollipops · 13/06/2013 07:13

If my landlord owned the house and offered it to me I'd take it but he can't be trusted.

I do think he will Soup. He said last time that his son's will do the repair work on the house. Both of which are car mechanics & are known in this area for drugs. Also his son lived in that house before and it got raided by police one night. I think its just a recipe for disaster.

I'd steer clear too, if you had a problem with the house once in then you already know that he can be difficult if circumstances don't suit him. No house is worth that hassle!

SoupDragon · 13/06/2013 07:20

I think you know the answer then! The house may be lovely but comes with a lot of hassle attached.

Is it normal for house to come up again so quickly?

helenthemadex · 13/06/2013 07:36

if he was difficult about you viewing the house etc then it is likely he could well be difficult if you have problems that he needs to sort out for you if you were his tenant.

Also why has the previous tenant left so quickly?

Branleuse · 13/06/2013 07:38

dont take it. Stay with the good landlord

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 13/06/2013 07:41

good god no. No nice house is worth the hassle of a nightmare landlord.

You would quickly come to loathe the house.

Stay put.

CloudsAndTrees · 13/06/2013 07:42

If you have a hose you like and you know the ll in the other house will be hard work to deal with, then I'd have thought its a no brainer.

I'm not really sure why you are asking if YABU to say no when you know the above, and he hasn't even offered it to you.

SodaStreamy · 13/06/2013 07:44

It desn't sound as if it would be a good move. Do you know why the previous tennants have moved out?

As others have said a difficult LL can create all sorts of problems, problems you don't have at the moment

LastTangoInDevonshire · 13/06/2013 10:33

A good Landlord is worth his/her weight in gold. I'd stay put - you already have some experience of what he is like.

QuintessentialOldDear · 13/06/2013 10:38

Well, it is available again, so must mean the tenant he chose instead is leaving. Do you know why?

I would stay clear...
