We have been looking forward to the new superman film coming out & thought we could take DS, esp as its being released just before Father's Day, so it would have been a nice family treat on Sunday.

But they have made it a 12A so he will be too young. Why couldn't they make a nice PG film that everyone could enjoy?

But apart from that, I thought it would be a continuation of Superman Returns. Instead its a remake of Superman 2. Can't they think of a storyline to carry the story on with his son? We will still watch it (if we can get a babysitter) at some point, but AIBU to be a bit meh about it now

They have already tried a lawsuit against people who downloaded the Hurt Locker in US. Personally I think they should PAY PEOPLE to watch that one it is a pile of crap. Anyway they got nowhere with the case as the IP addresses were for random people who never even used computers and they could not actually prove anyone who had a download at that IP had actually pirated the movie.
In addition Kim Dotcom's new MEGA site encrypts everything and I think soon there will be even safer methods for pirating.

Fakebook · 11/06/2013 19:57

Roary, you are a class A idiot.

bobthebear · 11/06/2013 19:58

doesn't look that bad to me We'll be taking DS to watch it (he's 8)

Tee2072 · 11/06/2013 19:58

Yes. Because pirating is something to be proud of. [rolls eyes]

ParadiseChick · 11/06/2013 20:01

Read the parental guide on imbd, that'll give you an idea. It probably won't be bad for sex scenes or language, bit of violence but I'm guessing it'll be stock comic book and not lots of how gore. The story and themes might go over his head.

I took my 6 year old to Spider-Man, he loved it and got most of it. The annoying 3 year old running about going "where's spider man mummy" then getting bored were a total pita.

And I hope yours haven't inherited your blatant disregard for the law.

What other ones do you break? Do you steal other things as well? Or just money out of the pockets of movie makers and other artists?

Fakebook · 11/06/2013 20:14

Tee, can you tell me what that deleted message said?
I missed it.

Tee2072 · 11/06/2013 20:16

I PMed you Fake. I didn't report it. It was actually rather silly and not worth hitting the report button, but if I quote it, I'll be deleted!

Thank You! Just replied :).

Sgt Calhoun, it is the trailer that is PG. The actual film is definitely 12A. Which is stronger than a PG, and means it's necessary to think carefully and research it before letting a child younger than 12 watch it.

There is some guidance on the BBFC site here (click the bit that says BBFCINSIGHT PUBLICATION DATE 04/06/2013)

Burmillababe · 11/06/2013 21:35

I used to work in a cinema - the other posters are correct - an under 12 can see the film as long as they have an adult with them. It may not be suitable for younger children though.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 11/06/2013 21:42

I suspect the 'reboot' (keep up MNetters, we don't say remake anymore, that's so 1990s Grin) of Superman is going to be quite dark, like the new Batman films, which I would NOT let my dc watch.

Mine love Iron Man and The Avengers, but that's Marvel (I think in collab with Disney) whereas Batman and Superman are DC Comics and have taken a different route in recent years.

My youngest is almost 5 and no way would I take him to see the new Superman - I doubt very much that it's family-friendly fodder. Take him to see Despicable Me 2 instead - much more suitable.

Trills · 11/06/2013 21:49

YABU - I much prefer a darker and more adult film.

Tee2072 · 12/06/2013 07:45

Actually, a remake and a reboot are two different things Heart.

Superman Returns was a pile of crap, so thank goodness they haven't continued on that line.

That said YABU but I kind of wish DS2 could see it, he really loves all things Superman, but at 3 it is out of the question.

In any case it would be inappropriate for him to see his Mum drooling over Henry Cavill.

There must be a way to get Henry Cavill and Chris Hemsworth into the same movie? When Universes collide or something?

Trills · 12/06/2013 08:29

Do tell us Tee.

MrsMelons · 12/06/2013 08:56

I thought 12A was the equivalent of a PG now but you have to have an adult with you, I didn't realise there is still a PG rating, I thought it was scrapped.

Binkybix · 12/06/2013 09:01

I would have liked it to maybe be dark enough to justify a 15.....

Morloth · 12/06/2013 09:09

Superman is probably quite hard to make dark though really.

I mean yes the destruction of his planet is pretty dark, but being an infant he wouldn't remember it.

He is raised in a safe, warm, loving, kind home by two parents.

It is all quite 'wholesome'.

The main sadness he would have would be the loneliness, though I would say if he is human enough to fancy Lois then he is not really a completely different species so therefore not completely alone.

Most of the other superheroes have 'issues' but I never really got that sense with Superman. And of course he is a proper superhero, not just some rich guy with a lot of tech...

Tee2072 · 12/06/2013 10:47

Okay:

Remake: Take the same, or very similar, script, stick to accepted cannon, make the film.

Reboot: take a character, write a whole new script, break cannon completely, make the film.

Examples:

Thomas Crown Affair: Remake

Star Trek 2009: Reboot

If the new Superman is the old Superman from the 2nd film with Christopher Reeve? It's a remake, not a reboot. The last Superman film? Reboot. Really really bad reboot, in fact.

Exception the proves the rule: New Who. It's half remake (some cannon kept) and half reboot (some cannon shattered to little tiny bits).

Tee2072 · 12/06/2013 10:49

Sorry, missed something: I don't know anything about Man of Steel. I didn't even know it was called that until I searched for it.

It actually sounds like it might be like New Who: half and half.

Trills · 13/06/2013 08:51

Ah, but it's all a big timey wimey ball, and the Doctor lies, so how do you know that anything that was true is now untrue? :o
