To be dreading leaving the house shortly and running the gauntlet of the parents who pick up kids from school in the car

Our road is near a popular school. Each morning and afternoon it can take 15 minutes longer to leave our road due to the double and sometimes triple parked parents.

The cars are parked on a junction, sharp corner, and across people's drive way.

And one of the most annoying things ( other than the parents that leave their car parked on the road all day whilst they go out for the day) is that at lease 5 people live within a 5 minute walk but still take their kids to school by car ( and then drive straight home!)

I had to sit for ages behind someone this morning indicating to turn right up towards the school. The 'child' in the car looked about fifteen and the school is about five minutes walk up that side road. But could the mum just drop him and let him walk the rest of the way. No, we all had to sit and wait so 'precious' could be dropped right to the door.

Not posted much so please be gentle Smile

We were desperate for our daughter to go to our village school, to have a walk along the towpath morning/afternoon. Sadly 700 children applied for 60 places and even though that is the only school we are in catchment for, we didn't get in.

So now our daughter goes to a little prep school, only about 1 mile away but up country lanes with no pavement and very steep hills. There's no way she could manage now (she's 6) to walk to/from school. There are no buses to/from the school.

So I drive and I park considerately. I once got abuse (foul language) from someone who took exception to me parking outside his house - I was parked along the road of the back wall, so certainly nowhere near his access (in fact around the other side of the house) but apparently it was too much to have to look at a car while he did the washing up. I'm not actually sure what he expected when he bought a house on the same street as a school.....

Just start a face book page called Inconsiderate stupid dangerous lazy parking at Dimwit green school (insert name of school)

take photos, add to FB page, write comments, place link next to each picture , to where you have also put the same photos on YPLAC

Send link to page to school, head and governors, put up a couple of posters inviting parents to view their parking on the FB page.

Take lots of pictures, add to page, and magically it will improve.

I'm off in ten mins in my car to pick up my youngest dc, I live a 5 min walk away, BUT we live in a village a good few miles from where I have to pick up my eldest dc and they finish 20 mins after my little dc, I therefore have to go to the first school 20 mins early to be parked in prime position not to be blocked in so I can get to the second school in time, it is my only option, we only have a school and a pub here!

And I also drive a largish car, due to a large dh that needs to fit in it, I look like I don't work as I work from home most of the time, but still need to be home at a certain time to log on. I do this all in reverse in the morning.

Oh and you will drive your dc at some point as one will be ill, or for some other reason. I assume there were plans for a school at some point when you bought your house..I could be wrong on this.

Having had my mini rant, inconsiderate parking is not on and blocking people in is no one Grin

Toocold · 12/06/2013 14:23

That was meant to read blocking people in is not on!

morethanpotatoprints · 12/06/2013 14:30

I would just key the car, especially if they were parked dangerously. have done this a few times when idiots have parked in front of our garage and we haven't been able to get out. if they are illegal, they aren't going to do anything about it.
If they are legally parked, not a lot you can do about it.
Somebody once parked because they had an exam to go to and had nowhere else to park. I called the Police who took the car, i hate inconsiderate drivers.

Binkybix · 12/06/2013 14:33

Toocold - am confused, apols if I've misunderstood your arrangements.

Why can't you walk to first school, 5 mins back to your house, which would give you 10- 15 mins to drive to second school, thus taking one car out of the crush at the first school?

FunnysInLaJardin · 12/06/2013 14:44

hang on a minute. ilove in one post you say you live very near to the school and so getting out of your road is a nightmare, then in another post you say you live a 10 mile round trip from the school. You also say your DC aren't at school yet and so I am a bit Confused as to why you even need to drive past the school at all.

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 15:10

No. What I said is I have to drive pat the school to get out buy am moving very shortly. The comment about a 10
Mile round trip was because someone said why didn't I walk on the journey I had toile and I said that it was a 10 mile round trip.

The kids aren't at school yet, but the atrocious parking effects all on our estate, not just those with kids.

Bloody iPhone. 10 mile round trip was never a trip to school. It was actually to my mums.

I am pleasantly surprised by the lack of traffic caused by the 2 schools on my road, maybe because central London and fewer cars (also not a fancy part, think its different a mile or so up the road).

We didn't have kids when we moved and naively it didn't cross our minds to think about the traffic a school could cause.

oh, OK Ilove
