AIBU to want my money back?

I went to the hairdresser ten days ago, got ombre dye and a haircut. I spent £188 and today nearly all the colour is gone. I am so angry. Do you think I could get a refund or at least them to do my hair again?

Jeez...£188 for a cut and dye?? What did they dye it with, pure gold???

I pay my mobile hairdressed £33 for cut and colour and she does a fab job.....I think they saw you coming.

But yes, def go back and complain, I would go for a redund rather than get them to do it again - threaten them with trading standards if they get arsey and go when it will be busy in there as they won't want a fuss.

missmarplestmarymead · 10/06/2013 13:57

I think I would go back and ask for a refund. I agree that I would not ask for it to be re-done, unless they can give a reasonable forecast for the length of time that the colour will last.

How disappointed you must be. YANNU

Did they do a stand test a few days before dyeing your hair, they would have known your hair wasn't suitable for the colour.

PoppettyPing · 10/06/2013 14:00

What do you mean exactly by "all the colour is gone"? Did they darken the roots and leave the ends out?

Scholes34 · 10/06/2013 14:09

My goodness. Am I out of touch with things? I think £35 is bad enough for a cut and blow dry. Is £188 what many people expect to spend on their hair?

I've just googled ombre dyeing and see you can do it on curtains.

BarredfromhavingStella · 10/06/2013 14:57

Wtf, £188??? Shock

Hell yes, get the refund!

lookingbusy · 10/06/2013 15:02

I had my hair highlighted a couple of weeks ago for the same price. He did it really well, and it was what I asked for, but I didn't like it, it was too dark. I went back and they were happy to do it again - didn't charge me anything even though I told them it was entirely my fault.

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 10/06/2013 18:56

Just to update you:

I was expecting to pay around £120-130. Last time I went to the same hairdresser I had my hair cut, dyed, highlights and an expensive treatment as well as a Kerastase treatment and paid £190. I had my last exam, I am going on holiday soon and I really wanted to treat myself. I am now really upset about this. They didn't tell me the price until they started. I asked but she said the manager is busy and will let you know soon.

Refund def - you need to get the money back to get someone to do it right!

GemmaTeller · 10/06/2013 19:22

I paid roughly the same as that on my long hair and my hairdresser always quotes the exact cost when I book the appointment (because I ask)

I would go back and show them whats happened and tell them you're not happy. Its your money and your hair and if the colour hasn't stayed in then then something has gone wrong.

Szeli · 10/06/2013 19:24

Whether the dye takes is dependant on your hair. Whether or not you are happy days later is irrelevant - you paid for a service you recieved and were happy with upon completion so I think yabu to expect a refund.

However, a good stylist should redo it free of charge if your colour hasnt held up as s/he claimed it would (s/he should have been aware how your hair would react within reason by the condition of your hair and the results of a strand test).

Not telling you the cost pre treatment is bang out of order! Although, I wouldn't start a treatment without knowing the costs first.

Are you on any medication or pregnant? These can both also affect how a colour will take

x

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 10/06/2013 19:46

I didn't ask beforehand because last time I had much more done (highlights, dye, expensive treatment etc.) and paid the same. I am happy to pay the amount, but I think 188 quid is a lot for the colour to be nearly gone ten days later.

I thought ombre was where they bleached the bottom half? So brown on top and blonde gradually at bottom.

fairylightsinthespring · 10/06/2013 19:57

szeli - but surely for something like this, the "lasting" factor is important and can't be assessed at the time of completion?

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 10/06/2013 20:39

manti
Yes, but she said she wouldn't bleach the bottom. I have dry hair.

holidaysarenice · 10/06/2013 20:59

im blonde-ish and when i try to go chocolate brown it only lasts a few washes. sadly

Szeli · 10/06/2013 22:06

Fairy - a strand test and a consultation/examination of the hair should give you a damn good idea how it will hold colour if they're an experienced enough colourist - and charging £180 you would expect them to be! xx

deste · 10/06/2013 22:19

Hair won't go lighter unless it is bleached so if she didn't think your hair was suitable she should not have done it.

LeoandBoosmum · 11/06/2013 00:51

I think I'd go back and complain. I'd say the cut is okay and you're happy to pay for the kerastase treatment you had but as the colour did not work you expect a refund in order to have that part done again elsewhere. If they offer to do it again then I would say I've no confidence in them to get it right having messed it up the first time. I think that would be reasonable.
