To never go anywhere with DS ever again. Ever.

Ok maybe not for ever. I'm thinking maybe aged about 10? Went to the beach today with DS (2.2), DH and DD (12). What a fucking nightmare. Gorgeous day, all really looking forward to it and DS has done nothing but tantrum, kick off, whinge and moan and to top it off his latest noise is a really high pitched angry scream. Shock I felt so sorry for the poor sods sitting near us having to listen to it.

My nerves are still shredded (he isn't sleeping well either) and I can't believe how stressful today has been.

Someone please tell me this is normal. He is SUCH hard work. DD was a really quiet, gentle toddler, DS is just... mad.

It is normal for some kids. It's the luck of the draw. Order gin in your next online shop! And repeat 'it's a phase, it'll be over one day' while you drink. Have a Brew then go to bed and get some sleep in.

I know how you feel! DD 20 months was the same few weekends ago when we went away for weekend! She tantrummed, kicked, hit and basically had a melt down at every given opportunity to just stress me out that little
Bit more! An horrendous drive down progressed to all four of us (OH, DD 6) miserable and wishing we had stayed at home! Two weeks on and iv just recovered and need another holiday (pref without the kids/ toddler)! My eldest was a dream in comparison . She'll grow out of it within the next week - wont she?!!

Great idea re weekly shop, if only they did 24hr instant delivery...

Glad it's not just me! Seriously, they do grow out of the madness and become tamed don't they?

Sorry but the zoo bum smacking incident made me chuckle. Grin Maximum mum humiliation!

Of course it's normal. All toddlers have tantrums. Not going to make out my d.d never had them.
I remember my D.D threw a right wobbler at a certain supermarket check out and there was this kid in front acting like a real little angel. God I was mortified and I said to the women on the till (after the previous child had gone of course) I feel so embarrassed with my little one kicking off and that other child was so good... and the cashier's reply was... Kids don't have tantrums in sync.... How do you know she (other child) never threw a tantrum a half before! and was truth I didn't. xx

MammaTJ · 10/06/2013 06:59

C999, that was a nice cashier with wise words!

OP, I have three DC and while DD 1 was an angelic tot, she was a nightmare teen. DD 2 is just a challenge full stop and DS has his unreasonable moment even now at nearly 7.

Anyone who says their children are perfect all the time is either lying or deluded. It will get better, just in time for your DD to turn into a teen monster. Grin

It is normal they grow out of it. Honest Wink It can be hard work though when they are in that stage. Ds had a meltdown at a local church playgroup once. He threw a biscuit at the elderly lady helper who had given it to him to try and calm him down. It got her in the face. I never returned.

HerrenaHarridan · 10/06/2013 07:20

Yesterday I was in the pool with 16mo dd.

She has decided she does not need held onto in the pool and will fight me like I'm trying to drown her.

Eventually I warned her (name, ready, go) and let go

I heard people gasping over the screaming of the older children playing. She wasn't bothered and STILL would let me hold her Sad

MadameBlavatsky · 10/06/2013 11:57

God they're hard work some days aren't they? DD was an angel until about 8... She's made up for it since..

The playgroup biscuit throwing sounds like DS! His favourite thing apart from high pitched screaming and knocking glasses off faces is throwing food on the floor. Usually full bowls of Cheerios or tomato pasta. No matter how much I clean I still keep finding dried up bloody Cheerios everywhere.

This too shall pass, repeat, this too shall pass. Grin
