to buy a new house next to social housing?

I had a casual conversation about a house we are looking to buy with a group of friends today. One who is a friend of a friend said it sounded lovely, but we would be mad to buy near those in social housing?! I once had a neighbour who caused me huge problems and she owned her house therefore it makes no difference to me. This was ignored by her. Am I missing something or is she just being a snob?

The main red flags for me would be if the area generally had a poor reputation or if it was in a let to students/transient area.

Our road is probably slightly more council owned than privately owned but is generally a pretty decent area and house for first time buyers. I like having a lot of older folk as immediate neighbours, most have lived their houses pretty much all their adult lives. My adjoining neighbour is a council tenant and has the most immaculate house and garden I've ever seen. She mows her lawn pretty much daily during the summer and I've seen her trimming the edges with scissors before! Neighbours the other side are a bit sketchy, I've had a parcel of a reasonably obscure item 'go missing' before and seen it turn up unpackaged in their garden a week later.
