To buy something on credit against DPs wishes?

DS needs a new bed and we're moving next weekend and DS has the smallest bedroom. I'm looking for space saving furniture and also want to make his room look cool, cosy and trendy to make up for the fact that he has such little space.

I saw a bed last night, it's £250 - leather effect with a drawer underneath - knocked down from £500. Plus I have a £10 voucher to use on that plus it's 0% interest buy now pay later for 6 months. I want to buy it now before it goes back up in price but DP is dead against credit. I am usually but this is a great deal, lovely bed and I know I can pay it off in 6 months.

AIBU to buy it anyway despite DP being against it?

Oh and in any case I'd say YABU to take on debt against your partner's wishes, interest free or not.

Have you had a look around at beds? Or is this an impulse buy? Yabu if the latter. Idea haspve really good space saving furniture. Have a look around and then present your case

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 08/06/2013 19:11

Yabu. Leather effect won't last with a child...it will get scuffed and torn.

Good decision. No single bed is worth £250 and to be honest, any amount is unreasonable if you are having to go against your partner to do it.

Link?
I wouldn't go behind Dh's back, but I would put up a good case for why we need to get a storage bed for the new house.

I am against even considering using credit. If you can't afford to buy it outright then you can't afford it. Space saving furniture may seem fine for now. I had a space saving bunk bed affair thing but climbing up a ladder every night and sleeping in a bunk past 13 was not for me so the bed was changed at that stage.

It's a tiny room. Buy him a futon that can be rolled up whilst you save for proper space saving furniture that will last. How old is he?

YABVU credit is the road to heartbreak - trust me!

Definitely get on ebay.

We were almost seduced by an offer like that, then we found the same bed (Ottoman style, King size, faux leather) for £125. That included delivery too.

LoSiento · 08/06/2013 21:45

The fact that you would need to borrow money to buy a £250 item is also a very strong signal that you shouldn't be taking on debt.

Does your ds need a new bed straight away or is it something you can get when you've moved in to your new house?

Apart from the fact that your DH says no, I would be very wary of getting credit at a very expensive time in your lives.
