To think that MNetting is sooooo much easier when using a proper keyboard?

Since getting my ipad, and then discovering that I can MNet from my iphone, I rarely sit at my desk with my keyboard where I can happily bash out long posts with lots of crossing outs and bolds and Grin Wink Confused emoticons.

My posts have got increasingly shorter as I can't be arsed with all that finger tapping, and oh the bizarre corrections these new fangled gadgets make.

Those of you who use your phones and tablets all the time, how do you manage such long and interesting posts?

Or am I just an old fogey?

I'm on an ipad and can type fairly quickly but with the odd spelling mistake! However, I do find having to type 'open square bracket smile (as in the actual word!) close square bracket' to do a smiley emoticon annoying when everywhere else you can do it with a 'colon, hypen and a close bracket'

I too love my mini iPad, I can type ok on it but do find the words it puts in a nuisance I am lucky that my fingers are quite small , but I can imagine people with bigger fingers would find it a problem. My sis in law has the bigger iPad and hates the whole thing , can't type on it at all. Since I have had this I hardly use my computer at all.

But I can type at 60 words a minute on my proper keyboard. Find this one finger stuff really laborious.

jestrin what do you meant you have to type the actual words , all the brackets you need are on the keyboard , it's just that you have to touch a couple of keys to get to them.

Jestrin · 08/06/2013 10:57

If you look at the smileys list below I was describing what you have to put in. If I'd typed it with the actual symbols e.g [ then I assumed all you'd see on my post was the smiley emoticon rather than a description.

Jestrin · 08/06/2013 10:59

I suppose I could have put spaces in between and used the symbols instead....

Jestrin · 08/06/2013 11:47

AND the other MN thing that bothers me is the inability to edit a post. Other forums have that function, why not this one?

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/06/2013 11:52

That has been discussed at length on site stuff I believe. Many reasons, but one in particular being that some threads wouldn't make much sense if people could go back and edit their posts.

Which could also be said about post deletions. I am ambivalent on editing.

You only have to put the correct brackets , they type the word you want no spaces. Yes it would be handy to be able to edit, especially when you have posted a glaringly obvious mistake ! Or like I do sometimes all the words are joined together! Blush

Jestrin · 08/06/2013 11:58

Mummylin I know that! I was just trying to describe how convoluted it is. I typed the words because I thought if I just put the symbols in my post would just show the smiley face when I wanted to describe how different it is to the standard way of creating an emoticon. I'm sorry I confused the issue.

mummylin2495 · 08/06/2013 12:00

But I think most people just ignore any mistakes. This is a brilliant site, are you a new poster jestrin ? It's fun, is very helpful and full of kind hearted people. Yes sometimes something kicks off but as in rl people have different ideas. Overall you would be hard pushed to find such a wealth of info and kindness to others who have such sad events happening in their lives. If you are new, stick Around and see for yourself.

mummylin2495 · 08/06/2013 12:02

Oh I see. Sorry I misunderstood. Must be the sun affecting my brain Grin

Trills · 08/06/2013 12:04

Android phones are better - there are a bunch of alternative keyboards to choose from, so you can pick the one that works better for you (and all of them make it easier to add punctuation and symbols than it is on iPhone).

Startail · 08/06/2013 12:09

iPhone is ok, the autocorrect, now you see it now you don't spell checking on my kindle fire drives me totally and utterly mental

Oblomov · 08/06/2013 12:20

My phone, I read, and may manage a few words reply.
Dh's ipad, same.
I like sitting upstairs, at our old desk, with our old laptop.
Only there, could I start a thread. Only there, can I write a reasonable length post, link, or cross out etc, which I used to so enjoy as part of my 'MN experience' of old.

Reminds herself, to sit at 'desk', more, as I am now.
