To use a 15 year old for babysitting?

That's it really. We've only ever used friends (often too busy) or occasionally family (too far away), but now the dc are a bit older I was thinking of asking a neighbour's daughter. She seems very sensible, and her Mum is only a few doors away should the need arise. Is 15 too young? What's the going rate these days?

I think the law states you can't leave anyone under 16 in charge of kids (UK). I could be wrong.

There is no law about the age you can leave a child alone or how old a babysitter should be, it's advice only.

Anyone leaving a child under 16 alone or with a babysitter under 16 remains legally responsible for the child and could be prosecuted if anything should happen whilst they are gone.
