To be sick of disability abuse.

Went to Asda again today (have started another thread over a blue badge spacce fight).

Today some lads noticed husband's blind cane and kept running around him shouting "over here...no over here".

A group of people found it hilarious.

When security arrived they ran out the store.

If it had been racist abuse they would have been arrested...why is acceptable to abuse the disabled?

The nasty little shits. Angry

mrsjay · 04/06/2013 19:30

they can be arrested for it roary it so isn't acceptable horrible people will be horrible people though I hope you and your husband are ok

yaimee · 04/06/2013 19:31

It isn't. It's a hate crime, exactly the same as racism and will have to be logged as such if you report it.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Please report it. I don't know how much or what can be done, but the police need to be made aware of the incident.

BeeMom · 04/06/2013 19:43

My daughter (when learning to use a white cane) was already becoming adept at swinging it at someone who was bothering her. She was really good at tripping her brother, too.

Since then, she has decided that she would rather not use the cane (she is "low vision", not blind, and has figured out how to navigate without her cane) but she was a going concern with it in her hand.

Admittedly, we did discourage it, but in your situation, I would have looked the other way.

BeeMom · 04/06/2013 19:44

Discourage swinging the cane, not using it entirely... just thought I should clarify

SauvignonBlanche · 04/06/2013 19:45

What horrible fuckers! Angry
I bet they thought they were so fucking funny.

SauvignonBlanche · 04/06/2013 19:47

Where's your other thread OP?

schobe · 04/06/2013 19:47

They may be on cctv - I'd report to police.

mrsjay · 04/06/2013 19:48

They may be on cctv - I'd report to police.

Birdsgottafly · 04/06/2013 19:48

It is a form of harrassment. Has it been reported to the police?

They will be on camera somewhere and if they got in a car, it will be on camera.

They can ban shop lifters, even if they haven't caight them, but have seen them on CTV, so the same should be applied here.

Birdsgottafly · 04/06/2013 19:49

X post with schobe.

Littleballofhate · 04/06/2013 19:49

I am so sorry this happened to you. :( As a disabled woman I understand how it feels to be the target of abuse. My heart goes out you and your dh.

Roary1 · 04/06/2013 19:53

I am also disabled but I am fortunate that my disability is not something you can see, it is bipolar disorder.

It's illegal op. My sis recently got into a row on a group where they were posting photos of local 'characters' and mocking them. (ie people with MH problems and ld's )) Sis stepped in and said her dcs had SN and she'd be devastated if they were being mocked.

Ended up being called a 'retard breeder' for her efforts.

crashdoll · 04/06/2013 20:04

Please report as a disability hate crime. If the police see a spate of hate crimes in one area, they will take action.

Littleballofhate · 04/06/2013 20:26

Do you ever wonder what drives people to such cruelty? This is something I think about often. I just wish I knew what happened to make one person believe they have the right to harm another with their words.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 04/06/2013 21:21

That is fucking disgusting. Why did no-one tell the men to shut the fuck up? Most Asdas I have been in are full of straightforward types who would ave stood up for your husband. You were pretty unlucky. I hope that your husband is ok.

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/06/2013 23:26

What the fuck?!

I can tell you one thing,if I'd seen those boys doing that I would not have just stood by and laughed.

Fuckers.

Tiredmummyneedswineandsleep · 04/06/2013 23:41

Disgusting makes me so angry. They obviously have no standards or morals :( my DS is 5 and has autism. He was called 'spacktard' by my now ex boyfriend's ex wife. All the police did was pay her a visit and ask her not to do it again. She was shouting, swearing and telling her son to 'fucking best the shit' out of my DS. All in public. She used to make up all sorts that DS was attacking her son etc.. None of it true and it makes me so angry that she got away with it. Poor DS had done nothing wrong at all. He's a gentle soul.

RiotsNotDiets · 04/06/2013 23:49

Fucking appalling.
I'm sorry this happened to you and your husband OP and hope you are both ok.

I recently read getting away with murder for uni, it's a report on hate crime against people with disabilities. The ill treatment the people in the report is quite frankly horrific and chilled me to the bone.

Elquota · 05/06/2013 00:13

Yes, definitely report Angry

IneedAsockamnesty · 05/06/2013 00:24

I wish I could say I was shocked but unfortunately having disabled family members and having a disability myself means I encounter this type of thing lots.

Report it

CouthyMow · 05/06/2013 00:33

Report it.

It is a crime.

Easier said than done to report it, as I well know. Yet another one who has had incidents like this happen over my disability.

I've even had my purse stolen whilst having a seizure in the past. Never reported that either.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 05/06/2013 03:19

Yup, it's disgusting and even worse, disability hate crime has increased as the recession bites. Disabled people are 'the other', we are dehumanised and belittled and dismissed every day of our lives.

And each time it fucking hurts so badly. That poor man.

MidniteScribbler · 05/06/2013 03:28

Gosh that is just disgusting. As is anyone who stood there and watched it happen.
