How tedious. It is only the 2nd of June and such banal comments are driving me mad. Yes. It is sunny. It is weather. You're an adult, aren't you used to the change in seasons yet? I know IBU but am in a grumpy mood today!

I am Canadian - if I couldn't talk about the weather or taxes, I would just have to practice a silent and unnerving stare.

I generally just reserve the "stare" for my DH and DCs...

squoosh · 04/06/2013 16:08

I've never discussed taxes! Feel I'm missing out, I've been pouring all my energies into weather.

infamouspoo · 04/06/2013 16:08

bit of a breeze now

PostBellumBugsy · 04/06/2013 16:10

I was so wrong with the altostratus, they are actually cirrus and cirrostratus.

BeeMom · 04/06/2013 16:10

squoosh... diversify! You'll be so much more in demand at cocktail parties Grin

Louise1956 · 04/06/2013 16:10

it's what English people do. get used to it.

garlicgrump · 04/06/2013 16:18

I used to think it was very English. Then I went to live in the tropics, where people talked just as much about the weather! OK, they had ZERO diversity in theirs, but can still manage a totally recognisable conversation based around whether it's reached 40° yet, and is it just me or does the humidity seem very heavy today?

Sorry, Loopy, South Americans must be more garrulous than Malaysians Grin

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 16:19

It's just a standard conversation opener. More interesting than the standard 'How are you?' 'Fine.' If I didn't have the weather to talk about with my PILs and some of my colleagues, it would be stony silence 24 hrs a day!

bettycocker · 04/06/2013 16:55

YABVU. Sunshine is a bloody novelty these days!

marjproops · 04/06/2013 19:32

its briiliant here.

so brilliant that....

loud drum n bass ''music'' from next doors open doors and windows since 2pm and still going on.

someone STARTED hammering and drilling at 7pm. with open doors and windows.

ive had to hurredly bring in my washing as someones started a bbq and the smokes blowing this way.

teens roaring up and down road with skateboards and mopeds.

with their tops off of course. and no, not fit at all.

LOVE this weather......(please rain, please rain, please rain, just for the evering at least).

and its only tuesday. (puts on hard hat)

comedycentral · 04/06/2013 19:34

Jeez another thing we're not allowed to talk about. Some people are odd. Biscuit

LuisSuarezTeeth · 04/06/2013 21:25

SCORCHIO!

I'm sorry, it had to be said Grin

AnyFucker · 04/06/2013 21:29

it's been the loveliest day of the year so far today (the 4th of June), weather wise

Mumblepot26 · 04/06/2013 21:52

There is your answer

musicposy · 04/06/2013 23:53

Grin Pagwatch

I teach piano. I have lost count of the number of times today and yesterday I have talked about the weather. The words "about time too" have featured very heavily. The other staple was "did you have a nice half term?"

I have to talk about something. I could just say "Sit there. Play x." but I might not have many pupils left.

I'm British. I talk about the weather, approximately every half hour. It makes me feel better and makes my day go along nicely.

musicposy · 05/06/2013 00:00

Grin at all the people talking about altostratus and cirrus. My weather talk is lacking a little something, I feel.

PostBellumBugsy · 05/06/2013 09:08

oh I don't know musicposy, I think you could start with a cheery "good morning, how are you feeling about the VAT today?". Grin

OnTheNingNangNong · 05/06/2013 09:14

I was told-on here no less- to start conversations with people about the weather.

It's bloody lovely outside, I would like a few drops of rain of a night just to water the plants.

I remember being taught about clouds at school and thinking WTF, why? But now I know why! Thank you Mumsnet! Grin

StellaNova · 05/06/2013 09:22

There is a whole chapter on weather talk in Watching the English as far as I recall. It's the civilized equivalent of picking fleas off each other. Or something.
