to think its my fault

Order stuff from health food shop to be delivered Friday.
Had to nip out Fri (actualky completely forgot about parcel). It seems they delivered while I was out. They left it by my door (in full sight of main road) and it vanished :-(
But I scheduled the delivery for Fri and it contained perishables. I guess there wasn't alot else they could do :-(.
£40 down the pan.

I'm not sure it is entirely your fault - they shouldn't have left a delivery in full view of the road. If there was nowhere safe to leave it, they should have taken it away with them again.

DuchessFanny · 04/06/2013 10:41

I would be irritated that they'd left a box of food on my doorstep ... not taking into account someone nicking it, i'd be concerned about animals running off with some (magpies here are craaazy)
Could they not have rung you ? or taken it back to depot/shop ?

pamplem0usse · 04/06/2013 10:47

They had my mobile number. Oh well I'll see what they do. They have a photo of it by my door so I'm guessing they think they did enough.

No, this isn't your fault. This is the delivery company's fault. They didn't get the product to you safely and therefore the loss should be at their expense.

Try one of these which templates out.

Fakebook · 04/06/2013 12:22

No it's not your fault. They shouldn't have left it on your doorstep. You could have left the house that day in an emergency too. Why couldn't they have given it to a neighbour? I'd complain.

Keztrel · 04/06/2013 12:24

They shouldn't have left it on your doorstep unless you'd said that it was okay for them to do that.

MisselthwaiteManor · 04/06/2013 12:24

Not your fault at all, they could have taken it away with them if there was nowhere safe to put it or no-one else who would take it in. They should be refunding you.

EagleRiderDirk · 04/06/2013 12:25

Thinking about it, a picture of the parcel buy your door proves nothing. They could well have put it down, taken a photo and swiped it themselves.

I think some responsibility lies with you as you created the situation where they couldn't complete the delivery to you personally, but they should have a more robust procedure for when the recipient isn't available.

Crinkle77 · 04/06/2013 15:32

I agree with WMittens. You have to take some responsibility. You ordered the stuff for Friday then forgot about it. The driver probably has a carefully planned route that has to be delivered in a certain amount of time. If they have to come back later on it will probably throw their whole schedule off course. In addition think about the extra time/petrol costs that the company will have incurred and if they had to return to redeliver later on it would cost them a fortune if they have to do this for a number of customers.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/06/2013 15:35

OFGS. Companies should have a better procedure for when a parcel cannot be received. Not everyone can dedicate whole days to sitting in the house waiting on a delivery.

Leaving it in plain view is careless.

Wishiwasanheiress · 04/06/2013 15:36

Why on earth don't they ask for instructions like "throw over back gate" or "leave with neighbour if out"? I'm rather surprised they photo it by a door. How do they know its your door?

I had one (different firm) guy argue with me that he had delivered it right. When I really managed to get in to the detail he said he knew it was mine as it was red. It isn't its PVC/glass......

diddl · 04/06/2013 15:37

How long a "nip" was it??!!

I think it odd to leave food on the doorstep-let alone in full view of a road-unless for some reason they thought you were in & not answering.

jessjessjess · 04/06/2013 19:10

The OP going out is beside the point - they shouldn't have left it there. In this situation I have said the goods were not delivered to me as evidenced by the lack of a signature, and have successfully got a refund.

Jengnr · 04/06/2013 19:16

Not your fault at all. Kick some arse!

MerkinMaker · 04/06/2013 19:33

Have you seen the picture that they have?

I was told this by M and S when phoning about a delivery not turning up. Yes they did have a pic, but it wasn't my door!

jessjessjess · 04/06/2013 19:36

Doesn't matter whose door it was - it's still not been delivered where it should have been!

olibeansmummy · 04/06/2013 20:50

What?! It's not your fault. This happened to us when we ordered something from ELC and they sent a new one no questions asked. Fight your corner and at least get a refund!

diddl · 05/06/2013 07:40

What does a pic prove??

That someone put it down & took a pic??!!

jessjessjess · 05/06/2013 19:00

The pic pr

jessjessjess · 05/06/2013 19:00

The pic proves they didn't actually deliver it - so rather than being their ammo it should be yours.
