to want to tell people to stop bloody sniffing!

CaipirinhasAllRound · 03/06/2013 16:34

I do not want to hear it
It's revolting so carry a tissue and blow your damn nose!

And while I'm at it, don't sit opposite me on the train and spend the entire journey noisily sucking an inflated balloon

Thank you

Sometimes if you have a really bad cold even a box of tissues isn't enough for a whole day. Also I would rather sniff a bit on the tube than give my nose a big fat snotty blow in a silent carriage Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 03/06/2013 16:46

No more UR than I would be to expect people to be a bit more sympathetic to hayfever sufferers.

At this time of year I am generally on antihistamine eyedrops, nasal spray & prescription only tablets.

I still have a constantly irritated nose and although I do blow & have tissues and the meds minimise it I genuinely cannot help some sniffing.

I appreciate it must be bloody annoying to listen to on a long train journey though - I annoy midriff doing it at times Confused!

Lizzylou · 03/06/2013 16:46

Oh God.

I am being driven demented by my slightlyobsessedbymestalkerish colleague who has been sniffing all day. Then sighing loudly so I ask what is wrong.

She did it all last week too.

It was a child who was sucking the balloon right? Perhaps that is what I could do tomorrow to get my own back?

McNewPants2013 · 03/06/2013 16:47

I tend to up to a point where it hurts to wipe thank you hay fever

DumSpiroSpero · 03/06/2013 16:47

I annoy myself ...my midriff has no problems with my sniffing!

YoniRanger · 03/06/2013 16:48

My hay fever used to be so bad that my sniffing was a tic. Thanks for your sympathy though, it's heartwarming.

usualsuspect · 03/06/2013 16:49

I have a cold atm

Sorry about that, even blowing my nose won't stem the tide of Snot.

Pascha · 03/06/2013 16:49

I don't get the inflated balloon reference. What do you mean?

Loulybelle · 03/06/2013 16:50

Curse my hayfever!!!

CorrStagnitto · 03/06/2013 16:55

AIBU to expect people to be more sympathetic/understanding of my hayfever induced sniffing?

FerrisBueller1972 · 03/06/2013 16:58

I have an awful cold and a drippy nose. I will sniff and blow as much as I like thanks very much. Or would you rather I let it run down my lip like a snotty child... Grin

usualsuspect · 03/06/2013 17:00

I'm tempted to wedge two bits of tissue up my nose,

That wouldn't be a pretty sight on the train either.

Trills · 03/06/2013 17:01

I would rather hear someone sniff than listen to them blow their nose.

CaipirinhasAllRound · 03/06/2013 17:03

Ok, apologies hay fever sufferers, this is a year round gripe and yes I do have sympathy

The balloon thing was odd. Was a guy of about 20 who holding the end you blow in but had the rest in his mouth and was just slurping slurping away

Usualsuspect maybe 2 tampons would work better lol.

I thought about doing the same :)

CaipirinhasAllRound · 03/06/2013 17:08

It was an uninflated balloon [embarrassed]

Sniffing is annoying as is nose blowing followed by a good root around in the nasal cavity and then an inspection of all mucus expelled. Hmm

Also on the That's Annoying radar today is people who do really, really long yawns and never at any point cover their mouths.

They will be executed when I get my own dictatorship.

LoSiento · 03/06/2013 18:45

You should stop farting then.

desertgirl · 03/06/2013 18:50

YANBU to want to, you would probably be U to actually tell them.

(actually got myself moved mid exam once as a sniffing person was driving me insane - I do have sympathy for the sniffer, but the sound really, really bothers me, nails on a chalkboard time)

SybilRamkin · 03/06/2013 20:10

YANBU, although I do feel very sorry for hayfever sufferers and I know it's not their fault.

However, I was in an exam last week and there was a bloke sniffing away just behind me - I asked the invigilator to offer him a tissue, but apparently he already had a full (untouched) pack next to him that he hadn't bothered to use! Angry

LifeHuh · 03/06/2013 20:17

Hmm.I sniff because of allergies. Not enough to blow (TMI!),and wiping doesn't have much effect or stop the needso I shall continue to sniff.Sorry.

Maybe you should appreciate sniffers more,we are giving you free and for nothing the chance to practice dealing gracefully and tolerantly with life's little irritations?

jellybelly18 · 03/06/2013 20:28

I get horrendous hayfever so I can sympathise with fellow sufferers but this is one of my pet hates! Just blow it for gods sake! I have to sit on my hands to stop myself running over, putting a tissue to their nose and saying blow. I think I actually have misophonia and this is one of its manifestations if you like.

HollyBerryBush · 03/06/2013 20:56

I know the answer to this.

I was in close confines with a child sniffer yesterday, to the point my child asked the other mother if she could provide the sniffer with a tissue.

Apparently, hay fever is too drippy to blow, you need an infection to get blowable snot.

I must say I was at the point of cutting the childs bloody nose off to stop his non-snot dragging of the drippy stuff.
