to think that posters who use any variation of "if you don't like it don't look at it/buy it/just suck it up" are very silly

and should have a word with themselves?

Honestly, what does it add to meaningful debate?

'get a grip' is so condescending and demeaning though, - it does not come across as a friendly 'man-up' punch on the arm - it's just rude for the sake of it - or certainly that's how it appears.

It depends on the subject.

If someone is complaining about things that are not offensive or harmful, just things they don't like, when it is easy enough to just not look at the thing in question, then that is a perfectly sensible response.

MN is an open site, filled with posters from different backgrounds/education/knowledge base, so that will limit debate.

Some subjects aren't allowed to be debated on here, they are quickly swayed one way and kept going by posters who agree filling the thread.

But i do that myself when the thread is about poverty etc, so i can't complain.

There are times when people need to get over themselves and "get a grip", the shite that some people get worked up about and feel insulted by is unbelievable.

Depends what the threads about.

Some posters make everyday occurances into a drama.

Lazyjaney · 03/06/2013 18:10

I think posters who do some variation of the "I don't like it so you shouldn't see it/buy it/do it/it should be banned etc etc are even sillier.

Trills said what I meant. Only more eloquently.

Every event in life can be classified as follows:

  1. You can change/affect the situation
  2. You cannot change/affect the situation.

These can then be followed by one of two results:

1a. You change/affect the situation.
1b. You don't change/affect the situation.

2a. You accept it and move on.
2b. You don't accept it and remain in your current state.

1b and 2 are similar, in that 2a and 2b can also follow 1b.
