I live at the bottom of a quiet lane usually only dog walkers which is also a public footpath.

Beyond this footpath is open fields/trees. As soon as the good weather comes local teenagers come down the lane and go drinking in the fields. Angry

They then go backwards and forwards screaming, shouting, being sick, sitting on my wall, and peeing against my gates.

This has being going on for four years, yes four years! Last week they woke my 5 year old up and she was terrified.

Every time it happens I call the police, they come out eventually and ask them to keep it down.

I've just spoken to the two that have been out. They can't move them on as it's a public footpath Confused

To be honest I know its not their fault, and this is not a dig at the police themselves, but how can they have no power over this?

I've involved my local councillor etc and still it continues. I can hear them now while I'm typing this.

My dad lives at top of the lane and they smashed his greenhouse last week.

What can I do?

Peeing on your fence?

An electrified fence. Seriously.

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 02/06/2013 00:08

Could you get night vision CCTV fitted. I think you can pick it up quite cheaply at Argos. That way if you have got evidence of them carrying and drinking alcohol or even peeing on your wall/fence the police may be able to act.

thenightsky · 02/06/2013 00:09

I thought urinating in public was an offence. Smashing the greenhouse most certainly is! What a nightmare for you OP Sad

MissMarplesBloomers · 02/06/2013 00:09

Borrow a neighbours fierce nippy dog?

mummytowillow · 02/06/2013 00:12

My dad has cctv can never catch them!

There are three horses in the field with a tiny foal, they were throwing stones at them last week Sad

Where are their parents, its 12.15 why are they out at this time?

You need to let the horses owner know that their foal is being targetted Angry

Surely all the wanton vandalism merits SOME kind of police intervention.
YY to CCTV .

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 02/06/2013 01:01

Their behaviour towards the animals is disgusting and unacceptable. Would you recognise the individuals who did it? You need to report this to the police, they have a duty to follow it up.

This makes me so Angry

Please try and contact the horse owners too so they can take action to protect the horses.

SquinkiesRule · 02/06/2013 06:29

Poor horses. Idiots like this caused my sisters horse to have to be put down after she broke her leg in fear of teens who were on private land and harassing the animals.
If the land is private can the owner put up signs and go after them for trespassing.
RSPCA might have something to say about them throwing stones at a foal and mare, maybe they can help too.

Eastpoint · 02/06/2013 06:37

Can you contact your l

Eastpoint · 02/06/2013 06:40

Can you contact your local councillor? There are lots of areas near where I live where drinking alcohol is banned, public parks, car parks, recreation grounds, once the ban is in place there is usually a £100 fine & it is an offence to be drinking there, so the police can do something.

raisah · 02/06/2013 06:41

Apparantly those cat sensor detectors which you can buy from b&q etc can help. Teenagers ears arent fully developed yet so can pick up on the high pitch frequencies of the sensors so it would be uncomfortable for them to hang around for a while. I saw it being discussed on crimewatch years ago, worth a try. Nail it to the fence facing the alleyway so you can switxh it off if you need to.

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 02/06/2013 06:44

Try the RSPCA?

Are they underage? If so report the local shops for selling it underage?

Do you know who owns the field?

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning · 02/06/2013 06:46

raisah yes I saw something about that being used in a public area about a year ago for a very similar situation as this.

GalaxyDefender · 02/06/2013 07:17

YY raisah, in the village where my mum lives there's one of those machines specifically designed to keep teenagers out with the high-pitched noise and it seems to work. It just about works on me still and I'm 25!

Mum refers to it as a "Hornet", but I don't know what they're actually called. Maybe worth the OP looking into.

JollyOrangeGiant · 02/06/2013 07:22

I've heard them called mosquitos. Bit of a shame if you have kids though as your child will be demented by them. I'm 27 and can still hear them.

Have you been in touch with the person who owns the horses? The farmer?
Is there anybody else on your road that you can get to complain?

OHforDUCKScake · 02/06/2013 07:38

Little shits. Breaking green houses, throwing stones at horses, peeing on your gate, frightening your child.

I used to drink cider in fields too, but we were quiet and respectful (believe it or not!) and never once had the police called on us. We'd never have dreamt of damaging someones property.

Theres no need. Id go ape shit if one of my boys did that. Ylu can be a teen, you can rebel, without punsihing the public while you do it.

I can only suggest photos, camers, recording the noise and writing down every detail (description of them too) at the exact time.

EntWife · 02/06/2013 07:40

set up a nice big speaker and blast them with some classical music. You will have to do it consistently every time they appear and it may well be as annoying for you as it is for them but it wont take long for them to find somewhere else to be.

chateauferret · 02/06/2013 09:23

Complain. It's no more or less a public place than the street outside the mayor's house and if they did it there they'd be lifted in jig time.

ihatethecold · 02/06/2013 09:39

what a nightmare.

It sounds like lazy policing to me.
I cant believe that some public order offences aren't being committed.

do you know any of the parents of the kids? why are they out so late?

iamadoozermum · 02/06/2013 09:40

Your council should have an anti social behaviour policy so it might be worth having a look at that. Definitely keep a log of all incidents and phone the police or crimestoppers each time. This builds up a body of evidence. Also write to your MP to make them aware and your elected police and crime commissioner. In the letter ask them specifically what they are going to do to resolve this and make sure you indicate how long this has been going on. Get your neighbours to do the same.

When our road had similar problems a few years back all the neighbours were given a police contact number and named person and were asked to phone every time. This meant that the police and council had the data to take things further if needed. This is the relevant section of the anti social behaviour act 2003 www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/38/part/4 which you might find useful.
