Bloody housing association!

Today i have received a letter from my housing association. They want to do an inspection of the property. Fair enough, that doesn't bother me. But they haven't given me a date or a time. They'll just turn up anywhere between 1st June and the 28th June. Wtf?

I have rang them and they said they cannot pin down a day for me.
I work and have a busy life. Can they do this?

I don't know why they would want to tbh! You are likely to be out and it will waste their time!

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:09

It's not the first time. We were having a Bbq a couple of years ago and 2 men in suits just appeared in the garden. I wasn't happy then either.
I don't feel like i can settle now.

We had one of those my dp was sleeping off nights but it was over in 30 mins or so. Can you call them again and say when someone will be in our housing Ass is quite good when you offer them different times due to work patterns etc

starsandunicorns · 01/06/2013 16:12

Ie say mon to fri 9-5:30 noone is there

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:14

I have asked but they said it depends on who is in the area. I don't like the idea of them just turning up. It's not on.

Its their house to inspect. Harsh tho that is. Howver it is your home, just don't answer the door.

LineRunner · 01/06/2013 16:21

That's ridiculous.

A landlord has to be reasonable and make an appointment.

What if you were out, ill, in the bath, on the phone for work, asleep, covered in immac, crying hysterically at Thelma and Louise... Actually I'd let them in if was the last one.

80sMum · 01/06/2013 16:24

I think they surely should give you reasonable notice of when they're coming. Just saying which month it will be is too vague. If they show up and it's not convenient, can you just say sorry it's not a good time and tell them an alternative time?

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:26

I know it's not my house. But i pay to live here and i shouldn't be put out for a whole month.

Gosh, our HA send appointment letters, they are coming on Monday to do a gas safety check.
Who are you with?

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:39

Muir housing. Everything seems to be a bodge job with them.

LineRunner · 01/06/2013 16:45

You could give them a choice of two or three time slots/dates, and ask them to pick.

That's reasonable.

LadyBeagleEyes · 01/06/2013 16:47

If you're not in, you're not in, especially if you're at work.
They'll try knocking at your door, and will keep coming back till they get you, I'd imagine.

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:49

How the heck am i going to keep my kids rooms clean for a whole month lol.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 01/06/2013 16:50

But if I answer my door and the person at the door hasn't made a specific appointment and it's not convenient, I don't have to let them in. I can ask them to come back at an agreed time later on or the next day.

I wouldn't let the meter reader in if I was in my dressing gown just about to have a bath. I wouldn't let anyone in if I was waiting for a taxi, or not feeling well, or in the middle of a work-from-home project. I'd ask them to call me later to arrange a convenient time.

Binkybix · 01/06/2013 16:50

Seems like an inefficient way of working to me. Presumably they need to do a number of inspections in one area, so why not just aim to schedule those over a set number of days?

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 16:52

I wouldn't mind but the place is quite frankly, a bloody dump. We need new windows, kitchen and front doors.
The previous tenant had replaced all those herself buying the damn things from Ebay. As you can imagine, they're not fit for purpose. I won't get anew kitchen for 5 more years and i have lived here for 12 years already.

I'd buy them myself but like a previous poster said, it's not my house, so why should i?

I thought the law said they have to give 24 hours notice. Anyone?

Needtostopbuyingcrap · 01/06/2013 23:37

Have no idea but i would like to find out.
