www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/Police-warn-smartphone-app-used-groom-children/story-19087645-detail/story.html#axzz2UXtVH1BR

Det Con Albrechtsen said he has yet to encounter "a single parent" who knew Kik existed and none of the children in his cases had told their parents about downloading the app

There has been quite a few very serious situations happening, the police down here are putting out warning all over the place, very frightening, how it is being used.

Please share, so parents have a chance to protect their children.

And please sit down and talk to your children/teens and explain how these apps and other sites are being used.

I expect most of the parents in the Plymouth area will have heard what has happened, but it not the only place where some seriously nasty incidents are occurring.

Thanks for the heads up...I will share on my FB page!

i have heard of kik. It goes hand in hand with omegle, where users will claim to be a certain age and then ask people who are a similar age to type in their kik details. I think teenagers should be very cautious about the whole thing.

Do, I'm shocked (not east to shock me unfortunately), I want all parents to get this warning.

I hope the schools take more of a lead in explaining to children how they can be targeted,

but share away and hopefully people will realise they need to speak to their children.

Not surprised. I am on the current chat thread about kids looking up stuff they shouldn't on ipads, and I think I am in the minority in that I dont think children NEED mobile internet devices. Apparently they would get terribly left behind if they didn't get them though..
Most parents very sweetly belive they Can police children on their mobile devices.
Its not that simple.
I actually think that children should not get smartphones etc, until they are mature enough to make informed decisions. And that doesn't mean 9.
You can still GET mobiles without internet access you know!

There are a whole bunch of parents in Plymouth/Cornwall that really regret thinking that way. Sad
