NOT toddler reins as previously suggested. The advert for Lelli Kelly shoes is just awful. Little girls running around in a completely pink set, with overpriced sandals on. But its all good, 'cos you get a free pink, flashing, sparkly cupcake with pink lipgloss in!!!!!!
Argggggg!!!!!!! What a bloody joke.
Of course my DD who is 5, now really wants a pair! That's what you get for putting on milkshake for DC on a Saturday morning so you can come on Mumsnet! Naughty, naughty Mummy. Grin

£50 for childrens pumps? if they stopped advertising them every 6 mins on peak time kids tv they could drop the price. dont buy them, it only encorages them

Sparklymommy · 25/05/2013 16:45

With a grandfather who worked in children's shoes I was never allowed patent (it doesn't let the feet breathe you know... And restricts growth). He had a fit when my DD1 wore a pair of pink, glittery, party shoes with a tiny heel on them aged 7. My argument was she wasn't wearing them every day and as she wears Cuban heeled dance shoes I didn't see the problem.
Lelli Kelly shoes were her dream as a tiny tot. She never got any because they weren't available near us. That said, I don't see a problem with them. Yabu.

pumpkinsweetie · 25/05/2013 17:00

They are normal canvas shoes with a load of beads on, would cost £7 for the shoes and a few quid for the beads and superglue. No way are they worth all that!!! If my kids wanted them i'd be happy to make them at the fraction of the cost Grin
Same as those cartoon heels for women, you can craft a normal stiletto with decoupage to look very similar as the ones costing £££

Roomfor1more · 25/05/2013 17:13

Bought the cheapy version of them for dd, she's gone 3, for some like 6 quid. She thinks they are Leli Kellys! They're in bits now from all the wearing she gives them. They're the last thing to take off before bedtime Confused But hey she's my only girl, she does love pink Shock and if that makes her happy well so be it but I'm not handing over any cash of double figures for shoes that I can buy cheap.

PMSL Unicorn vomit Grin

fuzzpig · 25/05/2013 17:35

YANBU, fecking ridiculous price for something that will be outgrown so fast. I love converse but wouldn't buy them for my DCs either while their feet are still expanding at an alarming rate. DD does have some sparkly converse-shape Skechers though, which were last season on sale for about £15 so I didn't object when DH came home with them!

So glad we don't watch milkshake anymore (DCs pretty much only watch DVDs now) so we don't get the adverts, the LK ones have to be the most annoying ones ever. Last one I saw was the light up rabbit pen Hmm

ouryve · 25/05/2013 18:58

YANBU. DS1 heckles the advert every single time it's on.

FunLovinBunster · 25/05/2013 19:26

Tacky.
Chavvy.
Stereotypes what girls should be like.
Shit.
Meh.

OxfordBags · 25/05/2013 19:28

Try having a DS that demands LKs. I suddenly abandon all my Feminist 'gender is a bullshit cultural construct and boys should be able to wear pink' principles and steer him firmly towards something a little less like a fairy abattoir.

Secondme · 25/05/2013 19:38

Yanbu-they push the shoes to children every second and of course, if the children see something enough they want it. They are yuk anyway and no child of mine would ever wear them. I mean, how much?!?! And yippee you get a tacky free gift too. I buy my dc Asda converse type shoes while their feet grow...

AlwaysWashing · 25/05/2013 19:43

Absolutely vile - the ad and the shoes. Bleerrrgh.

Potteresque97 · 25/05/2013 19:53

So I'm a serious non pink, sensible flat shoe type but my dd loves her lelli Kelly whatever's (her nanny bought them is my feeble excuse). I just can't impose my taste over hers even though I cringe a bit inside every time we go out in them. Can the light up hair extensions be far behind? She was campaigning for earrings today, not gonna happen...any tips on making girls less girly?

Layl77 · 25/05/2013 19:59

Go to a crap shop and buy a sparkly lipgloss... Then buy normal shoes and give them together! I hate them too, not as much as I hate the advert. The patent black school shoes and boots are just vile!!

Potteresque97 · 25/05/2013 20:02

Layl77 that is really cunning, thanks! She has never seen an ad for them btw, it's just something she's figured out, shiny etc = good...

Sunshineandflowers · 25/05/2013 20:04

They are a bit OTT for my tastes but actually very well made. With the removable insoles they lasted DD#2 for 2 years and she passed them down to DD#3 who also got 2 years out of them and they still don't look bad! No other shoes I've bought them have lasted that well!

ravenAK · 25/05/2013 20:11

I'm generally agin them on the grounds of unicorn vomit, but, to be entirely fair, we've had a few pairs handed down & they have generally proved to be sturdy & washable.

Definitely not worth buying new & absolutely fugly, but my dds love them. I pick my battles!

holmessweetholmes · 25/05/2013 20:11

They are vile imho. Fortunately dd (7) is deeply anti girly stuff. She makes retching noises at any adverts for pink sparkly stuff and is appalled by Lego Friends (normal lego isn't just for boys, mummy - why did they have to make a girls' version?!)

Roomfor1more · 25/05/2013 20:12

Potteresque97 How old is your dd?? I can't abide earrings on tiny little girls. My sister made some remark recently about dd(3) getting her ears pierced. Lets put it this way she'll never mention it again! When she's big enough to choose, 14/15, she can do it but till then its not happening, period!

Potteresque97 · 25/05/2013 20:25

My dd is 2 and a half, there is no way she is getting them pierced, but its like a magpie gene kicked in at 2, she loves any accessory, anything pink or pink plus sparkly :) I have mine pierced (at 14)... I did just say, when you are mummy's age...

Pouncer1 · 25/05/2013 20:40

My DD get these every summer...she loves them, I love them! :)

I think people used to think they were acceptable, pretty cool even, until the ADVERTS & lipgloss came out, I mean they cannot be serious, right?!

Pouncer1 · 25/05/2013 21:17

I would much rather put DD in LK than Clarks!

miffybun73 · 25/05/2013 21:21

YANBU, they're revolting and now DD aged almost 3 NEEDS some after seeing the ad on Citv :(

beatricequimby · 25/05/2013 21:56

The worst bit in the CITV advert is where one of the girls says the hair extension thing is 'just like real like highlights'.

Because real highlights are what you want when you are 7. Boak.

mrscumberbatch · 25/05/2013 22:07

In reply to poster's upthread- I was a bit horrified because lipstick for under 10's is totally inappropriate.

I don't 'ram' anything down DD's throat. But I want her to stay a child as long as possible, and by objectifying and 'beautifying' girls they are under increasing pressure to conform to a media stereotype of girlishness.

I love that your DD is into sharks, that's great but it's not going to help the majority of young girls who can't think for themselves and are having glittery 'beautifying' tat handed to them on a platter.

Goingmad- If I'd really thought it out I would have refused it but the woman was being genuinely lovely and thought she was doing something nice for us so I appreciated the thought etc.
