People always asking for things via their Facebook statuses?

Has anyone else got Facebook friends that do this? Or perhaps it's just me.

One friend posted today asking if anyone has a pram, cot, and other baby equipment she can have for her new baby.

Another posted fairly recently asking if she could have peoples' old maternity clothes, but "preferably Isabella Oliver or Next".

Someone else is always asking if anyone can pick her son up from school for her that day.

I just think it's a bit cheeky really. AIBU?

Urg my friend does thus but for lifts.

'Who can pick me and *** up at 2am from town? I'll pay petrol'

Um I think you want a taxi love.

Could a Mumsnetter clean my house, look after DS, give me 100,000 and wipe.my arse

SomethingsUp · 23/05/2013 21:54

Or could mumsnetters come help me pack up and move my stuff into storage, give me a place to stay while I am homeless and then help me through the intensive emotional therapy I am about to start for childhood abuse, which I am not sure I can cope with now after finding out my stepdad is terminal and may die very quickly. Oh and I'll need some help when I get to my new place with painting and furniture and organising new care for myself so I can have my daughter back from her dad's. I'll probably not get my son back, but I think he's better off probably, living with two disabled people is pretty tough going.

Sometimes people are asking because they are at their last nerve and they don't know what else to do, and they are hoping their "friends" might be able to help. Or does everyone have random strangers on their facebook?

I don't so much mind asking for old stuff or things people having lying around but one of my friends posted last week 'does anyone have a car I can borrow for next week?Confused Funnily enough there were no replies.

The same person also treats fb like a sort if directory enquiries so 'number for dominos please', 'does anyone know of a mechanic in xxx', 'what time is the last bus back from town', 'what time does Tesco shut' aarrgh JUST GOOGLE IT!

I like her a lot but these status updates are 6/7 times a day!

I think this is dependent on the frequency. I have once asked for a second hand item - I specifically said has anyone got an old x they want to flog - so no assumption of being given something - I have one friend who asks for stuff all the time including babysitting requests - it gets right up my nose! It's face-book not face-beg!

Bogeyface · 23/05/2013 23:51

Somehingsup My problem with it is that the people asking are people who are not on their knees, but people who just dont like spending money if they can get something for nothing. The person I mentioned above has a very good job, her husband has a very good job and she has openly discussed how well off they are. I am a single parent who has just had to sign on again because my employer did a bunk and didnt pay my wages to boot.

Cant help you with anything else, but if you are in the East Mids then I would happily come and help you paint :)

Entitled society innit. I don't imagine my mothers generation would have dreamed of stooping so low. We were brought up to work for what we needed or don't expect to get it. Another reason not to use Facebook. Seen similar posts recently about free cycle beggars. Isabelle Oliver Hmm

comingintomyown · 24/05/2013 17:38
