Yes, Eon, I'm looking at you, you bunch of ratbags.

I have just, like a week ago, switched to their cheapest (!) tariff and given a meter reading.

They have decided to send me a letter telling me my gas/electric direct debit is going up by 75%.

Well they can shove that up their arses. That's based on us owing them £300. But we've just come out of the colder weather so surely it's going to go DOWN now?

Arsing arses. I'm off to manually change the dd back down.

AIBU?

Why not change company? !

I'm with ecotricity. They're great, lovely helpful people. They don't make profit, they reinvest into renewables. They don't charge any more than the average in your area.

And, they gave me a hamper of chocolate when I joined Grin

When we changed provider, despite us paying direct debit for 3 years and despite them knowing our exact usage for the whole of that period, they decided to 'estimate' our final reading at £200 over what it should have been, and helping themselves to that from our bank account. Essentially, they were skanking our new suppliers out of the equivalent of 4 months usage. We contested it, and funnily enough it took 4 months and repeated attempts to sort out, by which time that £200 just went to our new providers. It is a total robbing bastard cynical scam.

If they try and increase your dd give them a ring. If they still won't put it back down tell them you want to go back to quarterly billing. You'll find suddenly they are happy to keep it as it is. Then change companies!

Definitely switch to another provider again. We're with the Co-op and have been very happy with them.

Woah, EON have never upped our DD without asking, and they were happy to give back £200-odds we were in credit by, last summer.

But their prices are getting hiked, no doubt. I'm off to check out ecotricity - any more favourable reviews of it?

Just me who refuses to pay by DD then?

I get a bill every 3 months... it's usually £130 for my actual usage. I pay the bill. I wait another 3 months... and so on and so forth.

It's not compulsory to pay via DD ...

I'm totally fed up with Eon now and am embarrassed to say we've not switched providers since we moved here over 3 years ago despite cringing everytime Martin Lewis appears on telly saying I'm an idiot for not doing so as I'm worried how you go about finding a better deal when I don't understand all the usage details, how many giggawhatsits and kilamojoes you use yearly, etc
Is it really that easy to work out a better deal?

Yep, blood pressure dropped nicely here since switched from edf to Ecotricity.

Didn't stop edf passing the final bill to debt collectors who started phoning me. Instead of just, you know, sending me a final bill.

I moved into a rental last year as an emergency. The tenancy stated that we weren't allowed to change supplier. We were only there for 6 months and was in a rush so thought it wouldn't really be a problem.

Yes, there was a problem - the supplier was EON!!

EVERY month, 2 weeks before the due date of the bill, we received a pre-legal action as though the bill was unpaid. We have very good credit ratings, never been in ultilty debt etc. We called them to complain saying we alway paid on time and why where we receiving these threatening letters? They said it was "a reminder"....

Funnily enough when we moved they were surprised we changed suppliers!
