Read an article about them in The Guardian this weekend and they have been around for years and everyone else in the world is aware of them and their music apart from me! And possibly my mum.

I'm a gimmer, yes?

Actually Funnys it was to differentiate between the singing duo and that hideous racist homophobic poster who was banned from Mn!

I thought OP meant DaftPunk the troll

Am i allowed to say that? >

Fefeffion · 20/05/2013 11:16

There used to be an advert for Gap featuring Juliet Lewis dancing to Digital Love.

StuntGirl · 20/05/2013 11:58

Shock at you OP!

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 20/05/2013 12:00

Even I know them!

Mintyy · 20/05/2013 12:18

I am a gimmer then! I sorta knew it.

I think YABU not to know who daft punk are, but if you aren't into music, then I suppose YANBU! Homework was an amazing album, as was Discovery. And their gig in Hyde Park 6 years ago is still my best ever gig (and anyone I ever meet who went agrees - weird, as you wouldn't think electronic music could constitute the best ever gig).

And I agree with pp who said was a legend Nile Rodgers is. Warehouse Project is my friend's thing! I cannot wait to see him at glastonbury - bet he plays at least one of the DP tracks he is involved with. Plus that Giorgio by Moroder track on their new album is ridiculously good, and moroder is another icon. I can't say I love every track on the new album, but I do massively respect them for not making the album everyone expected them to and for working with real musicians and producers.

Sorry - got a bit too enthusiastic there. Normally I am an AIBU lurker!

I am a bit into music! I start lots of threads on music, but they don't seem to attract much input.

Perhaps I'm boring, as well as an old gimmer.

That'll be it.

Yabu...they've been around for years!

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/05/2013 13:04

Mintyy are you having a mid life crisis?

squoosh · 20/05/2013 13:06

Daft Punk's music is everywhere but they themselves aren't very visible, I have no clue what they look like in fact, maybe that's why you've been unaware till now.

piratecat · 20/05/2013 13:10

yep

MardyBra · 20/05/2013 13:12

Blush I'd never heard of them either.

I do remember the Daft Punk who used to post lots of homophobic DM-type rants.

Mintyy · 20/05/2013 13:16

They both wear motorcycle-type helmets all the time and never show their faces. They are a bit odd. A sort of Gilbert & George of the music world.

Don't go thinking your little "yep" went unnoticed there piratecat.

Shove up on the old gimmer bench. They've only just crossed my radar too.

PollyIndia · 20/05/2013 14:01

I've changed my mind - YANBU. I spoke to my mum who loves get lucky, and loves music, but had never heard of them before.
And she is never u!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 20/05/2013 14:09

'The singing duo' lol! Grin

ComposHat · 20/05/2013 14:16

the young person's popular music act Daft Punk have been knocking around since the mid-90s.

I love the new single mostly cos I love Chic and those guitar riffs could be no one else but the great Nile Rogers.

o am doing our wedding disco and at least six tracks feature him as a producer or musician.

MrsMook · 20/05/2013 14:19

They've only just hit Radio2. So it seems's I've previously heard them around without knowing who (particularly at fitness classes)
I'm now a little wiser.
