idiot dh, just cut throught the lawnmower cable with the lawnmower, can it be fixed or do we now have to fork out for a new one

I fixed our hedge trimmer with electrical tape when dh did the same. If you've got a wire stripper and some tape you'll be fine. Stagger the joins so there's no chance of it shorting.

Ours has worked perfectly ever since.

My not so idiot dh says the bang is most likely a fuse, which could be in the plug or if not the fuse box. You will also need to reset the RCD.

As for the cut, he says the only really safe way to fix it is to cut the wire completely and put a new plug at this point and then put a 'free socket fitting' on the end of the rest of the lead and use it like an extension lead instead.

Dh did it to fil hedge trimmer 3 times in one day! It can be fixed.

DH did it to ours too. He is colour blind so the red cable on the green grass was totally invisible to him.

We now have a 3m cable with a plug that we attach to an extension lead.

DH has been banned from grass cutting!

There are blocks you can buy which you put both ends of the cut wire in, a bit like wiring a plug which keeps it safer than just electrical tape, and I don't panic about the tape coming loose in my hand.

DH cut through the lead on our chainsaw, it cost £20 to be rewired at one of those hire shop/repair shops

You can get a new cable (dh has plenty of form with cable slicing !)
We also got one of those plug in circuit breaker things, Its saved his bacon many a time !

I did this recently. The connector was moulded so I couldn't take it off and reconnect it to the intact lead but I was able to order a new connector and rewire. Ours is a flymo and I got the new part from a local hardware shop but you can get them on Amazon too.

We have RCDs and circuit breakers on all the circuits in our house (hurray we rewired it ourselves) but if you don't please please ensure you have a plug in RCD.

I woud get the mower to a diy place. usually they offer a mower service and should be able to fit a new cable as well.

Not a big deal as long as he is alright. Unplug it, take off the plug, trim the wire & pit it back on again. Ive Done this too many times before

Just uncover the wires and twist them together and cover with electrical tape. My hedgetrimmer cable is now 2 foot long.

If you lovely people are going to be fixing out door cables, may I suggest googling self amalgamating tape and heat shrink tubing.
