to want to know some of the unspoken rules of MN?

Just that really! I only joined a few months ago and have already learnt a lot of useful (and some less useful) stuff. On the whole I've been impressed by the tone of helpful solidarity and good-natured humour that prevails. But every now and then I'm wondering what I'm missing: why do some threads get hardly any replies, but others with pretty much the same question get loads? Why, as I read somewhere here, are displays of affection such as xx or virtual hugs a big no-no? Why does posters' whininess seem to be more accepted than neediness or petulance? (Huge generalisation, maybe unjustified) I'm a bit surprised about myself that I care, but I guess during the marathon of night feeds MN has become a rather good companion whose dynamics and rules I'd like to know better.

I'm not trying to be controversial, by the way, just genuinely curious.

amazingmumof6 MNHQ sent me an email! They are considering the [choccie] symbol!!!!!!!! Hurrah!!!!!

MomsNetCurtains · 21/05/2013 14:55

I said it could be called [amazingchoc] i.e. a chocolate with a cape in reference to you being an 'amazing mum of 6'. Grin

Limelight · 21/05/2013 14:57

I didn't know about the spreadsheeting thing and I've been around for a little while (although lurked for some time). Am now very much hoping I'm very dull (for the first time in my life) Blush

Def read the classics by the way. Best way into MN. I remember the Pom bear thread when it happened - I got nothing done that day.

amazingmumof6 · 21/05/2013 14:58

momsnet I ? you! thanks!

Oh my, what a brainwave amazingmum! I haven't had any chocolate for so long because of DS' reflux, would be great to indulge virtually at least!

Grin Pag I just learnt that wankbadger actually means something... (yuk).

Limelight YY to classics. I also wasted enjoyed a whole 10 hours doing that. Smile

poncypony · 21/05/2013 15:57

Never stealth boast.

It is occasionally okay to boast properly.

ExitPursuedByABear · 21/05/2013 15:57

Nothing. I just get more argumentative when I am in my cups. I really do try hard not to upset people on here, as I do enough of that, unwittingly, in RL.

Although I did once post a defence of marriage, not realising I was in the lone parents topic Confused.

I thought spreadsheets were a joke!

MomsNetCurtains · 21/05/2013 16:04

'Although I did once post a defence of marriage, not realising I was in the lone parents topic' HA!

Spreadsheets? I don't get this joke - can someone explain it to me?! Is it brides and the spreadsheet thing...? Sad

amazingmumof6 · 21/05/2013 16:09

amazingmumof6 · 21/05/2013 16:14

momsnet

I think spreadsheeting is like FBI files.
some people keep a "tab" on others, apparently, so if your stories/arguments are not consistent from one thread to another they might bring it up and question you about it.

Here's some [choc] for you Wink

I remember your back passage. Or was it stairs?

YoniTime · 21/05/2013 18:26

Why would someone want to remember if someone on a large forum has a TV or not Confused

Gurke · 21/05/2013 18:52

LaQueen seriously? That seems a waste of effort & memory. I can't remember what I did yesterday, never mind about other people's electrical equipment...

But I've been curious about something else concerning MN: is the general assumption that everyone here is a woman (unless perhaps they have something like 'dad' in their name)?

usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 19:01

You should just post around the boards.

That's the best way to get to know MN.
