just offered dp chocolate out of a large bag and got rather huffily told i dont eat anythiny anyone else has had their hand in. bearing in mind its only me and the dcs who have reached in. then went on to rant about he doesnt even get biscuits out of the tin because other peoples hands have been in there. is he an oddball or do lots of people do this

i havr considered it but dont know enough about it. he holds hands,eats out at places but wouldnt eat from a buffet no.

would he buy an ice cream cone from a van? or home made cakes from a fete?

I think it does sound like minor OCD. I would seriously encourage him to recognise this is a problem, as it really can end up dominating one's life - I know someone who really battles with door handles and touching key pads etc in public places - she uses antibac gel ALL the time. It rules her life to the extent that there are things she feels she cannot do. Watch him, so it does not get out of control. Mildy enertaining at the moment, perhaps, but he might get TOO obsessed with it.

My mother will not eat anything that any child has touched even if the touching was actually making it.

he says he cant see the takeaway being made but can see the kids messing with their ears,hair ect. he is generally very fussy about who prepares his food yet can eat out. will definatly keep an eye because it baffles me but im not very germ interested beside the norm.

cant say he has ever asked btw, had yes but never actually asked. he can go without human contact for much longer than i could.

very odd. My cousin disinfects his house when people visit, usually when they are still in his house! He has separate crockery for visitors & they are only allowed to use downstairs loo.

I will now eat dd's biscuits as she is 15 and has heard me about hand washing for years.

thats v extreme but then i suppose he feels he has too. id be edgy as a visitor though, i think thats why we dont get invited out to family meals much as they know he is uncomfortable with it

I've shared a lollipop round a minibus so eating from a shared bag of Maltesers or Doritos wouldn't bother me.

That said, people do get funny "things" about food so I wouldn't try to convert him. More for us.

my OH is the same - not so much with me but definitely wont touch anything the boys have had their hands near. he also wont use the towel in the downstiars loo that they may have used. When in public toilets he keeps tissues in his pocket to use to open the door handles - he is a bit OCD - but will happily brush his teeth in the kitchen sink which drives me bananas!!

Everyone has little quirks, sounds like this is a little on the OCD spectrum, but so long as he's otherwise reasonable about germs etc I don't see why it would be a problem.
