AIBU to have got up and left the hairdresser's without my haircut?

So booked an appointment yesterday for a looooong overdue haircut at a place round the corner from me where I have been a couple of times before.

Appointment was for 1230, got there and the place was pretty empty but for the staff, who said hello etc, checked my appointment and took my coat and took me to a little table to wait with a glass of water.

I sat there about 15 minutes with no reading material other than the salon brochure when one very grumpy member of staff walked passed and barked "Are you hair or beauty" at me, I replied that I was hair, she walked on through a door and then stone staring back through the glass in the door at me for a while. Then nothing.

After 30mins passed I thought I don't really want to get my hair cut here anymore, but didn't have the guts to leave as I'm a total pansy I would have to ask for my coat back from the two girls who had been sitting giggling at the computer for the whole time I was there so sat on.

After nearly 40 minutes I just had to leave, I would have sat being angry and resentful the whole duration of the haircut, no matter how nice the girl was. So I just went and asked them for my coat and they were very shocked and squirmy and said the girl could take me straight away but I said no, I just wanted to cancel, took my coat and left.

If they'd paid when I arrived that they were busy (they weren't) and there would be a wait that would have been fine, but they just ignored me. That is rude, right?

I really need my hair cut this weekend though, so going to need to wander the streets to find somewhere that can do a walk-in appointment on a Saturday. I had a voucher for that place too for 20% off

Is this rude or is it how it works there days?

i had similar - waited for ages as my woman STARTed someone else.

then she gave me the junior to dry it - without asking if that was ok

Rainbow Rooms or Hely Hair were always good when I lived in Glasgow. You weren't being unreasonable. They were rude.

Something, there are millions of good hairdressers in Glasgow! You'll get something this weekend no bother!

YANBU and I have done the exact same thing (never for a minute did I think I was BU)! I never went back there either.

There is a couple of reasonable ones in Partick that might take a walk in customer.

YABU to sit there for 40 minutes without saying anything!! I can't believe you didn't politely ask (after 10-15 minutes) "I had a 12.30 apt how much longer will she be?" or similar.

If you want to go a bit further, last time I got a basic trim it was in the indoor market hairdresser in Clydebank.

It was only a tenner & I couldn't see any difference to the £30 trim I usually get. Just walked in & got it cut straight away, in & out in about 20 mins. I was offered a as well.

I don't think you were unreasonable at all. In fact, I am amazed you sat there on your own for 40 minutes. I'd have been up at the front desk after 15 minutes asking what was going on.

They absolutely should have told you the reason for the delay early on (with regular updates since 40 minutes is more than 'a bit' late), with profuse apologies.

They were rude but I don't understand why after say 10 mins, you didn't politely ask how much longer they were going to be?

A polite question like that is normal and not confrontational at all.

I'd book another appointment, and get lots of friends to do it too.
All busy time periods.

And never show up.

I wouldn't really, but would be tempted

So I took Wanda's advice and just walked along towards the Partick and went in to each hairdresser's I passed asking if they had any free appointments and the 3rd one did, In and out in 45minutes for £30 and it looks well.

It was a lovely young girl (gosh, I sound like my mum) who cut it and she was really nice. She had one of those tangle teaser brushes and I am SO getting one, they're amazing! Her boss came over and asked if I lived locally and would I mind popping in sometime so she could put my hair into an up-do so she could take photos for her portfolio as my hair is so long and a nice colour (it's not, it's a dull, mousey, ashy, medium blonde but I'll take the compliment!).

Still no word from the rude salon, I resisted the urge to walk passed that place on my way home and swish my new do outside their window!

I don't think you were BU, OP but that might be because I did exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago. All these hairdressers must be married to footballers otherwise driving away paying customers like this just doesn't make any sense. We were in central (ish) Glasgow as well, I wonder if it was the same place?

Go to the Rainbow Room Academy - they should have something for a stand-by appointment. They are good and not dear.

And well done for walking out btw.

Is it fair to name them publicly? I'm sure many people who get bad service would write a review online so maybe I should do that?

I had an excruciating haircut once, when I went along for some pampering to get away from dh and a house full of mates wanting to watch a big football game (I LOATHE and DETEST football). Just as I sat down in my swivel chair, one of the girls brought out a radio so she we could all listen to the match commentary.

She asked if I minded. I said yes. She then reluctantly took it away.
Everyone looked daggers at me.
AWKWARD!

I had a great hairdo at the rainbow rooms (in 1993). The rude salon's name isn't that of the much married screen goddess liz and the recently retired football manager alex was it?

This happened to me at the rainbow room! I'd been a customer for about 15 years but that was the end. I got the shocked looks from staff when I left, again all chatting and ignoring me while I sat waiting indefinitely. And I had asked "how much longer" while sitting.

Anyway, byers and birrell at broomhill cross are excellent if you're interested.

Maybe I shouldn't have waited so long, but after the first ten minutes I thought nothing, just that it was pretty standard except for the lack of magazines. After 20 minutes I figured they MUST be taking me soon... After 30 minutes I wanted to leave because I was annoyed and I knew I'd resent handing over a tip, but my jacket was being held hostage so I couldn't just slink out as I wanted to and not make a scene. 37 minutes I decided to make a one woman stand!

She asked me as I was leaving if I wanted to make another appointment too. I thought this but just said no thank you.

It wasn't that one Auld, though that'll be another one off on list!

Every one raves about the Rainbow Rooms but the one time I gathered up the cash to to go the stylist looked out the window the whole time and when I got home I realised she'd only layered one side of my hair. They were really good when I went back to get it sorted but I've never been back since. It was a very strange experience.

As a disclaimer the RR haircut was in 1997 so they might have pulled their socks up in the last 16 years

YANBU OP.

I left an opticians because when I got there they said they were running almost an hour late and refused to let me use their toilet, despite me being over eight months pregnant and hardly able to walk.

They wanted me make a ten minute walk to a shopping centre to go to their toilets and then waddle back and wait for my appointment.

I did leave but I never went back for the appointment. By that stage of the pregnancy I was needing to use the toilet every ten minutes anyway and I just couldn't face the stairs in the opticians again.

They did ring me, and I did tell them why I'd walked out.

Glad you managed to find a better hairdresser OP. Customer service is everything these days, they were wrong to treat you badly.
