to be scared of real supermarkets

A couple of years ago I switched grocery shopping from mainstream (Ocado/ Sainsburys/ Tesco etc.) to Lidl. Entirely financially driven as we are the archetypal corset wearing squeezed middle). Problem is that I now cannot cope in real supermarkets: too much choice, too expensive, too scary....

Means I can't buy a tin of tomatoes unless it is shoved on a palet and selling for 32p.

AIBU to think that when the great squeeze lets of I won't be able to function in the real world?

ok. Now I'm excited (yes, I'm a sad individual)
What should I be looking out for? (veggie family here and I'm a coeliac but the rest eat wheat)

I only shop at Aldi and can't bear big supermarkets now with too much choice. I also find them really expensive.

The last time I went to Tesco out of necessity not choice, I kept picking things up and saying 'How much?!' and 'No thanks at that price!'

I'm surprised they didn't escort me out - though I was very close to just dumping the basket and walking out anyway, they would have done me a favour!

I love big supermarkets Blush although we have a Lidl on the way to DD's school. I love Lidl too though.

We have a two-storey Asda with a ramp, and all the clothes/electronics/garden stuff/toys/scented candles are at the top, so you make a conscious decision to go to the fun floor or stay away. It also has a cafe that does fab cakes, and free wireless.

In fact, I'd say Asda is a department store, credit crunch stylee, and Lidl is the new Asda.
