to get to the furthest possible end of fuck, fuck himself roundly and fucking stay there until fuck freezes over?

Sold an item £20. Retail price £15 so hardly the sale of the century. Pre-sale he mails me asking will I take £16 to incl postage. Given that I'm not a complete fuckwit I declined his money-losing idea and proceeded with the auction. Unfortunately he won.
He paid immediately - postage by Hermes @ £3.30 - and then the mails started. Would I please send RM 1st as he needs it tomorrow (Saturday). I replied of course, happy to - RM cost would be £5.65 - would he like to paypal me the difference. So far, I think, so reasonable?
No - he doesn't like that. Could I send it 2nd class? Sure - no problem. RM 2nd class £5.20. Would he like to paypal me the difference.
No - he wouldn't like that. Snitty e mail "Oh go ahead and send it however you want but I think it's a bit off that it will take so long" (Auction description advises delivery time of 5 - 7 days via Hermes).
I shrug and thinking "whatevs" mailed him back saying sure, I'll do that, but if you feel that this won't be quick enough for you please do say so now and I'll do you a full refund and cancel the sale. Reasonable? I think so.
Another snitty mail - "I could have bought this from anywhere. I could have bought this from at least one other seller for £22 incl postage but decided to buy from you as you seemed (note the past tense) like an honest seller. Yeah, go on - send it by your slow service"

That's where we're up to. After that lot I have no confidence that a. he won't claim non-delivery and that b. he won't neg me whatever just because he's pissed that I wouldn't subsidise his postage. I want to cancel and refund and if he negs - well, he would have anyway.

WWYD?

How much profit are you making by sending something by a carrier that takes 7 days?

TheEndOfMyLastWit · 17/05/2013 17:04

What do you mean Rootin? Seriously? What do you mean? I am making absolutely NO profit at all on postage costs as indeed I should not be. No really good seller makes a profit on postage costs. Also - the buyer was many times offered the option of paying the difference to send by Royal Mail - you'd know this if you'd read the thread. So what is your point?

Incidentally - the carrier does not take 7 days. It takes 3 - 4. Ebay's default entry for postage time by anything other than RM is 5 - 7 days.

Orla - I did. And you're right.

Oh crap - sorry to hear that. Fwiw this is a weird thread wrt people sounding very confrontational. I can't work out why!

TheEndOfMyLastWit · 17/05/2013 17:25

No - it's got me a bit Confused too! Maybe some people just hate Ebay sellers? Grin

Overprotection - I would ask if you meant to sound so rude, but unfortunately I suspect that you did.

Instead, I shall ask you to provide the statistical proof that backs up your claim that ..." the sort of people who write appallingly formatted posts in appalling English usually seem to have more of these sorts of problems than everyone else....

And your evidence for alleging that you ..." suspect whatever your problem is it isn't as one-sided as you like to make out.

Since I doubt you can do either, I will suggest that you go away and learn some manners.

He is being a prat. In such cases, I mark that I have despatched it and let them email me a hundred times a week later telling me they haven't received it. Relist it. Block him. Let him open a case against you. Go on. Piss him off. It's a new sport, bating stupid buyers.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 17/05/2013 18:02

I bet Overp is the shitty buyer Your OP made perfect sense to me, TheEnd.

I, too, am a bit Shock at the aggression being directed at you.

I'd just like to say, I was in a similar position, except I was a buyer. I wanted an activity gym for my baby. I normally always buy from the 'buy it now' items, as it's less hassle and I know I have the item I wish to purchase (I always, always pay for my purchases as soon as my purchase is confirmed).

Anyway, on this particular day, I looked at the available items up for auction and put a reasonable (very slightly less than what similar items seemed to be selling for) bid in, hoping I'd get a bargain. I did. I won the item for the opening bid and additional P&P (which was a few pounds over what other, similar items were going for). I was over the moon that I'd won and promptly paid.

Four days later, I received an email from the seller saying they'd had a flood and the item was no longer available. I responded saying I was sceptical, however, I'd accept the explanation, as I had no other choice and I'd expect my payment to be refunded, in full, directly. I actually had to open a case to get my money back!

Ebay is a bloody minefield and despite the above, I'd rather just ignore the feedback for the non performing seller than leave a neg. I'm just a bit soft like that, I suppose.

Glad you got it sorted and learned an invaluable lesson. I hope you make a killing on it, when you re-list.

Cosmosim · 17/05/2013 18:37

If you cancel a sale, how can you receive bad feedback from a no longer existing transaction? I thought you can only send feedback to seller if the sale goes through.

fergoose · 17/05/2013 18:43

you can still leave feedback after a sale is cancelled, you can't leave feedback if a non paying bidder report has been filed and the buyer doesn't pay.

TheEndOfMyLastWit · 17/05/2013 18:50

Blimey Itsall - yes, I'd have been sceptical too. Sounds like they didn't get enough for it.
Yes, Ebay is a minefield. It's taken me years to learn most of the lessons and I still get it wrong sometimes. I absolutely am a polite and reasonable seller. I always communicate. I always refund if the buyer has a genuine case. I make no profit on P & P. I always honour the price an auction fetches. Most ebayers are like this - it's the nasty minority that attract the attention unfortunately.

LaGuardia - I like your style. I'm not quite that brave!

I'm dying to know what you were selling.
And yes I would have cancelled and blocked, you've probably saved yourself a load of hassle.
Has he replied?

TheEndOfMyLastWit · 17/05/2013 18:57

He actually has replied Cut. We have parted ways politely although I suspect any prospects for lifetime friendship are on the unlikely side Grin

peeriebear, sellers can't leave buyers anything but positive feedback and haven't been able to for a while so OP can't leave neutral feedback ;)
