To watch Pride & Prejudice on my own with a bottle of wine...

DH works away during the week and I'm fed up being on my own again. Not his fault and he wishes he was at home more too. However, I'm in a bit of a grump today and to cheers myself up I'm going to watch P&P on my own with a bottle of Pinot. The BBC version (the best adaption in my humble opinion), not the Keira Knightley one.

I'm looking forward to the bit when their eyes meet over the piano in the drawing room.....

How have I never heard the term 'Ikea Knightly'?

This thread has made me want wine and Sense and Sensibility.

'we were talking of london marm, and all it's diversions.

Sigh....

SirBoobAlot · 16/05/2013 20:45

YADNBU.

Now I want to watch Sense and Sensibility.... With chocolate and wine.

squoosh · 16/05/2013 20:47

Quizzywizz John Thornton is lovely, shame he still lives with his Mum, and she's a grumpy old cow.

DontmindifIdo · 16/05/2013 20:51

oh YANBU - that sounds like a great evening.

"In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

squoosh · 16/05/2013 20:54

'You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject forever.'

'Oh, Mr. Darcy. I... I...'

DaysieGoneBananas · 16/05/2013 21:05

Oh my word...YADNBU! Very very Envy we're watcing some car chase bobbins wih Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it yawn
(I always want yo call him Joseph Norman-Tebbit) would much rather a bit of Mr D'arcy!

TheoriginalMrsDarcy · 16/05/2013 21:17

I am sooo very jealous!!! [ENVY]

My DH is making me watch some vampire crap right now on tv.

Please may I join you too? And for the record, I only like the Colin Firth one too. Hate the Kiera knightly one.

squoosh · 16/05/2013 21:23

Grin 'car chase bobbins'

diddl · 16/05/2013 21:29

Since it's the BBC one, YADNBU.

McNewPants2013 · 16/05/2013 21:32

what is P&P about. please note that its only the last year that i have really enjoyed reading. before that the only book i did read was HP.

KitCat26 · 16/05/2013 22:23

Envy. Next time DH starts snoring on the sofa I am going to do this!

KittensoftPuppydog · 16/05/2013 22:26

How lovely. I might do the same tomorrow.

BOF · 16/05/2013 22:31

Wonderful idea. I had it on VHS to watch while in early labour with dd1, who is 17 today (where did the time go?). As it happened, I was in the hospital having a routine check-up, when they informed me that it appeared she was on her way, oblivious that I was, and she appeared a couple of hours later. Ah, happy memories.

Nelly000 · 16/05/2013 22:34

MrsTP, I did wonder. Seemed a little too Freudian Grin

thebody · 16/05/2013 22:34

You lucky lucky cow!! Any Jane Austen film or book needs wine, choc and a partner to work away!

squoosh · 16/05/2013 22:35

Oh I fancy a bit of Captain Wentworth/Anne Elliott long smouldering, misunderstood passion.

LadyHarrietdeSpook · 16/05/2013 22:36

Yanbu. Wine and P&P have gotten me through many a rough patch. In fact: where is that f'ng vid (spills wine.)

BOF · 16/05/2013 22:37

I loved Persuasion. The way that they showed Anne regaining her 'bloom' without giving her the full Gok treatment was awesome.

Talkinpeace · 16/05/2013 22:58

was just about to suggest Anna Root and Cairan Hinds
... loving longest when all hope is gone ...
THE BEST lines Jane Austen ever wrote

diddl · 17/05/2013 07:34

"You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant."

"I must go, uncertain of my fate; but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible. A word, a look will be enough to decide whether I enter your father's house this evening or never."

(I think that it's Amanda Root.)

Talkinpeace · 17/05/2013 13:10

sorry, you are right
and yes, coming back to pick up gloves .....
definitely the best book.

Squitten · 17/05/2013 13:20

YABU

I recently discovered the BBC version of North and South. It is unbelievably brilliant and Richard Armitage is positively edible. MUCH better than the BBC P&P (which I love)

squoosh · 17/05/2013 13:21

But he lives with his 'orrible Mum! That kills the sexiness stone dead for me.

TheCraicDealer · 17/05/2013 13:39

I was going to get "you pierce my soul" tattoo'ed on my rib in a Austen-y style script but I wimped out.

I would do Capt Wentworth every which way. John Thorton too. And Gabriel Oak. And Colonel Brandon.

squoosh · 17/05/2013 13:43

I'm sure that's one of Anne Elliott's lines isn't it CraicDealer, 'I would do Captain Wentworth every which way' Grin
