to think testing pregnant women to check if they're smoking is a stupid idea

Independent article.
This really can't have been thought through. Imagine conversation at AN appointment.
MW "Do you smoke?"
Pregnant woman "No".
MW "I don't believe you, please breathe into this machine."
Pregnant woman "Piss off".

I disagree with it. It's the nanny state.

Thegriffon,my midwife was taken aback and said that it should still register more than what it did so she has no fecking idea what shes on about then Grin If midwives they are being forced to do these things, at least bloody educate them properly.

I am alarmed at the amount of people who are buying new boilers due to the tests... Is it all sponsored by British Gas?

(and yes I do know carbon monoxide poisoning is a very real risk...)

TooOld, they get passed by the state legislature but usually challenged in the Supreme Court and ruled unconstitutional. The ACLU challenges a lot of this garbage.

Never had this test when I was pregnant last year, and if it had been mentioned, I would have said NO. I'm a non smoker, I hate smoking. My word should be good enough. There is enough knowledge and information these days for everyone to know smoking when pregnant isn't good, fed up of nanny state with things like this. People should be taking personal responsibility for their health and their baby's health.

I also feel sorry for midwives having to ask to do this test on women. Another thing for them to have to do and they know it's hardly going to be popular and might cause offense. My midwife actually retired whilst I was pregnant because she was fed up of midwifery becoming so bureaucratic and impersonal to the women they are looking after. Something like this isn't going to help.
