to think £65 for sandals is taking the piss?

Been looking online for a nice pair of sandals for summer. The pair that I like are nothing fancy, just a toe post, strap and heel cover. They are leather. Everything else seems to be covered in sparkly embellishments which dont float my boat or are disgusting colours.

£65 for basically a couple of straps, a buckle and sole. Not designer, just high street name. Or am I just turning into my Dad tight fisted?

If you've got the money and it's not going to impact on necessary family spending, then meh. Spend it or don't. But some of us will never have that kind of money to spend on shoes, or clothes, or holidays or whatever. For some of us, we have to save all year to buy new pair of winter boots and they'd damn well still better be under £80. So £65 on sandals simply wouldn't cross my radar.

If they were very comfortable and sturdy, then I would spend that amount. I would expect them to last at least three years. I walk a lot so would wear them for several miles every day.

I don't drive and rarely use public transport so save money that way.

I have to pay so much for shoes as I have size 9 narrow feet.
£200 for boots, about £100-150 for shoes and about £80 plus for sandals.
That said, they last for years...I am wearing boots from 5 years ago which are still pristine.

Tee I would have loved to buy supermarket shoes for dd, but genuinely have never found any that fit, she has narrow ankles had very broad front and nearly a size difference between each foot. I have no idea why expensive shoes seemed to fit better but they genuinely do. Actually hush puppies can be fitted with different insoles so thats why they work as school shoes, but are nearly 40 squid a pop. She had surgery a few months ago, and now her feet are the same size, I'm hoping cheaper shoes will now fit, but I must admit once she recovered from surgery I spent a fortune on her at the expense of me not getting any new shoes so far this year. I know I'm lucky to be able to indulge from time to time.

I think it depends on how you prioritise. I might spend that amount on sandals if they were exactly right. I have had my current sandals for 4 years and they are still going strong. I have friends who spend £65 for a night out! I would certainly not pay hundreds of pounds (and more) for a wedding dress to wear once.

Jinty64 - that's a very good point. If we go out for a meal, for the five of us, it will easily cost the same or more as those sandels.

I wouldn't spend that much on fashion shoes though. They would have to be decent and hard wearing.

Buy cheap, buy twice indeed. Although in with the lady who buys Clarks at outlet. You don't need to be wearing "this season's".

Good luck with the Swedish shoes, ripped my soles to shreds until I'd worn them enough. The sole gets slippy when it's hot.

As other posters have said, price/£ per wear is the key thing. If they last 3 or 4 summers, that's pretty reasonable.

Footwear prices have gone sky high the last few years as raw material & production costs have sky rocketed. Leather, cotton, rubber. They all cost a LOT more than they did 5 or 6 years ago. This has to be passed onto the consumer I guess.

A lot of high street outlets have eBay shops with auctions starting at really low prices. Worth a shot.

they are nice sandals, i have fly london yuna which are so comfy. the prices of them fluctuate a lot on amazon, i only paid £35 for these in tan.

I am super fussy about my sandals because most rub my feet so I would pay that for a pair that would last a few years.

I have tevas and merrels that have lasted 5+ years so were worth every penny (works out about £10 per summer).

I remember being able to wear cheap shoes. Now my bunions and plantar fasciitis have cripple me and I have about three pairs of shoes that fit and don't make my feet cry. Those fly sandals look awesome, I'm going shopping next week!

its way to much for me, i normally spend £15. tops for shoes for me, which only last a summer, but its the money that i have, though if you can afford it, then go for them, i do agree they will be cheaper in the long run. they are rarther nice too.

childrens shoes, im lucky my parents buy them thier school shoes and trainers, from clarks. i have paid for some cheap shoes for them in the past and honestly they dont last a week and have to end up taking them back.
