neighbour has new lodger in. she came round the other day on doorstep asking to use our WiFi code to access the internet and give us some money every month. we politely or so I thought said no that we dont want too. she asked fir the passcode and basically told us to stop being silly. again we said no and that we don't have the passcode. then she said oh it'll be here on the router ill come and check. again we said no thanks would rather not. I'm.not being a cow am I?

I like all the broadband re-name suggestions, but dearly hope they're not necessary - that this instance fobbed cheeky neighbour off.

Then again, I kinda hope it didn't - want to hear more!

I was particularly aghast at "don't be silly..." - I'll have to clutch my green amber; not wearing my pearls today.

pumpkinsweetie · 08/05/2013 10:07

Yanbu, how damn right cheeky Shock
Not only are you the one paying for the right to use it but allowing her access would not be good, as it would be your IP address she would be searching from and if she were to do anything libel or illegal, it would all come back to you.
Stick to your guns, what a cheeky so & so! Give her the phone number for all the internet providers!

Poledra · 08/05/2013 10:09

Don't give her any reasons - she'll just see that as an invitation to try and get round them. Just say 'No, we don't want to' and leave it at that.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 08/05/2013 10:09

We called our wifi virusdonottouch

MrsSpagBol · 08/05/2013 10:16

Please do not give any excuses like "our download limit is.." or "our service provider has a clause in contract"....blah blah. You do not have to make ANY excuses, the simple answer is no.

Who the hell does she think she is? And so what if he has offered to pay money? If she has money she should sort out her own connection - it's not hard.

Do you have a sign on your door that says "subletting wi-fi access"?! I thought not.

I just don't understand where some people get off. Tell her no, and tell her not to ask again. Ever. Cheeky cow.

TwinkleTits · 08/05/2013 10:16

My bitch of a neighbour did the same. Se lived in the flat below and asked me for my password for my wifi. Didnt offer me money though.

I said I didnt remember it. She called and asked again and I insisted I didnt remember it. She just said "Oh well. We'll just hack into it." Ad hung up.

Shock cheeky bitch.

Startail · 08/05/2013 10:19

That is beyond cheeky. No way.

Halfling · 08/05/2013 10:31

Second fuzzywizzy. Tell her that you have a very small download limit and you are always reaching your limit. Suggest that she buys a dongle for herself.

Please do not allow her to access your wifi. Not only can it compromise the speed of your connection, you also run the risk of appearing culpable if she (or the lodger) use the wifi for the wrong stuff (think child porn, Al Qaeda bomb tutorials, illegal pirated downloads etc.)

LIZS · 08/05/2013 10:32

No don't engage . There are other legitimate options and she should seek them out.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 08/05/2013 11:21

Get yourself down to the nearest WIFI shop (like Carphone Warehouse) and pick up one of their free catalogues and post it through her letterbox with the prices for wifi dongles clearly highlighted - maybe stick a post-it note on the page where they are shown and say "Thought you might be interested in this seeing as how you were looking to get broadband" and leave it at that.

Cheeky isn't the word for what she is! Smile

VonHerrBurton · 08/05/2013 11:31

Wow. Never again will I moan about my neighbours. Cheeky, entitled cow of the year award goes to likessnowflakes's neighbour. Especially the 'dont be silly ' bit. Aghast face.

likesnowflakesinanocean · 08/05/2013 12:06

Grin you guys are much braver than me. WiFi name is a load of numbers so can only assume guessed it was ours as was the highest signal

Tenacity · 08/05/2013 12:16

You don't want to share your internet, so just say no. You don't need to explain anything.
No should suffice.

roses2 · 08/05/2013 13:24

If she uses your wifi to download illegal content, you'll be the one in trouble, not her.

ophelia275 · 08/05/2013 13:35

Don't do it!

We had something similar. A neighbour in our block of flats knocked on our door when he moved in, asked to be able to use our internet and pay us each month. We said no as we didn't know him from Adam and internet is available very cheaply or at the local library. We just thought it was a really strange request. Anyway, lucky we said no as he disappeared about 3 months later having been evicted for not paying his rent.

MrsMangelFanciedPaulRobinson · 08/05/2013 13:53

What a cheeky cow!

Well done for saying no to her! People like her generally go through life getting away with being fucking cheeky because no one dares to say no to their unreasonable demands.

MrsMangelFanciedPaulRobinson · 08/05/2013 13:54

And yes, rename your home hub!! Grin

anonpost · 08/05/2013 13:58

Some people are so brazen! Yanbu.

lisac99 · 08/05/2013 14:51

I would make sure you've got a suitable password on it and not the default one - I'd also check every so often what devices are connecting to your box.

I would never in a million years allow anyone access to my Wi-Fi, anything illegal and it would be your neck on the line 'Oh right, your neighbour did it, huh? yeah right.....'

'I'm sorry, but if your computer was connected to my Wi-Fi and was compromised by a trojan or malware, it would make my internet connection much slower and I use most of the bandwidth myself. What's that? you don't use much? in which case it's probably best to do 'Pay and Go with a USB dongle, all the main phone companies do them!' Grin

likesnowflakesinanocean · 08/05/2013 14:54

ah it isnt a password its a random jumble of letters/numbers. glad i wasnt UR and hopefully that will be the end of it

OP posts:
Smellslikecatspee · 08/05/2013 15:11

I've read the whole thread and am still spluttering at the fecking cheek of her.Shock

You need to stick this on the cheeky thread in Classics. . . .

I really cant believe the cheek of some people.
Your are in no way unreasonable nor do you need to give some randomer any reason or excuse.

ENormaSnob · 08/05/2013 15:16

She is a cheeky cunt.

Yanbu

likesnowflakesinanocean · 08/05/2013 16:22

am so glad, we seem to live in this kind of area where people do things like this and dont see it as a big deal. walk into each others houses, gardens, ask millions of personal queations and comment on things that dont concern them. not on friendly terms so hopefully wont come to speaking to neighbour

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 08/05/2013 16:53

Fuck giving this cheeky cow an excuse. 'NO, you can't use it. Buy your own.'
