to bake in my lunch hour

I work from home Tues-Thurs. On Mondays and Fridays I run a teenie tiny cake business supplying cakes to a local shop. This Monday, I wanted to spend the day with DH and DS at the park in the sunshine (who wouldn't?), so I now have to bake like a nutter in my lunch hour and after DS has gone to bed to make up the cake order.

I baked 3 lemon cakes in my lunch break today, but I felt so guilty. I was shaking and felt sick! It's ridiculous. My colleagues in the office were all probably sunning themselves in the park, but I just felt really really bad. AIBU or is really out of order to be working for 'my business' on a work day?

You can do what you like in your lunch break.

StuntGirl · 07/05/2013 16:30

"I felt so guilty. I was shaking and felt sick! "

Seriously?

farewellfigure · 07/05/2013 16:32

Yes I know! I was disgusted with myself! Honestly I'm not joking.

Why?

What do you feel guilty about?

usualsuspect · 07/05/2013 16:35

Disgusted with yourself?

Why though?

I mean I was disgusted at feeling shaky in response to stuntgirl! It was a bit of an extreme overreaction. I'm quite happy being on mumsnet at 10 to 5 though. Double standards!

I'll have to ice everything tomorrow so hopefully I won't feel quite so ridiculously shaky and will be able to do a decent job of it!

What you do on your lunch break is your business. If you were working for a competitor that would be different but it doesn't sound like you are.

I have two jobs and quite often take in work from one job to do in my breaks whilst I'm at the other job.

DeskPlanner · 07/05/2013 18:40

Are you baking them at home or in the office ?

nbee84 · 07/05/2013 18:44

Were you shaky because you didn't take time to eat any lunch as you were busy baking? Low blood sugar levels can make you shaky.

starfishmummy · 07/05/2013 18:52

Sounds fine to me. Your lunchbreak is your own time; so as long as you fulfilled your contracted hours for your employer, then why not?

squeakytoy · 07/05/2013 18:55

but you work from home?

ShadowStorm · 07/05/2013 18:57

So long as you're baking on your time, and not your employers time, I don't see how it's a problem.
