Rewards for walking to primary school

We've had a note saying that children will be rewarded with house points if they walk to school once a week and back, for 3 weeks. DC1 is already on about it, and there is no way we will be doing it. We live in the next village, four miles away, as do lots of children, as it's a faith school with a huge catchment area.
I asked why the school was essentially rewarding kids for things they have no control over, and they sad it was an attempt to reduce congestion at pick up time. But if they'd actually asked the parents who drive to school they'd find they're doing it out if necessity, not choice!
AIBU to think this is a crap way to sort out an unavoidable issue?

we have stop and drop for 6 year olds upwards it is on road directly beside back gate to playground the secretary stands there you stop open car doors kids get out you drive off, you can not leave your car at all you have to park elsewhere if you wish to pass on any message etc it works like a bus stop total time taken about 30 seconds per car

Actually it amazes me how many people drive their kids to school when it is easier and quicker to walk. Don't blame the school. Parking is an issue at our school. Lots of people drive and park dangerously when they live closer than we do. It takes us 10 mins to walk. Anything to promote walking is good IMHO.
