to worry about my DH?

He's just been making some toast and I realised that he's the pain in the arse person who keeps turning the toaster knob to number 5 so I end up with burnt toast

I questioned why, when he doesn't like incinerated toast, he keeps turning the knob up, then popping the toast up every 30 seconds

Apparently, it's because he thinks that turning the knob up makes the toaster work faster.

He was astounded that the knob just controls how long the bread stays in the toaster, not how hot it is

He's 38, has a job where he has to make important decisions, manages to breathe in and out without assistance and dresses himself each day and yet, this has never occurred to him before

Got some tickets for the Manet exhibition three weeks ago.

DH asked 'The Manet Exhibition? Who is the painter?'

amigababy · 04/05/2013 18:25

dh has always thought it is cheaper to boil a full kettle rather than just what you need. He is Mega clever and related to a Nobel prize winning physicist, but has no concept of sciencey things.

BooCanary · 04/05/2013 18:30

Oh no, I am a nob too! How embarrassing. I thought it was a heat setting like with an oven are you sure it doesn't . Blush

Glad DH isn't here this evening as this is just the sort of thing that he takes the piss out of me for!

BooCanary · 04/05/2013 18:32

If it was a heat setting, not a timer, the second lot of toast you do wouldn't get done quicker (which it invariably does) because it wouldn't be hotter after being used once already

Oh god, it is now all becoming clear

TonysHardWorkDay · 04/05/2013 18:42

Really, its a timer?? That explains a few things I suppose Blush

Doubtfuldaphne · 04/05/2013 19:42

Why do toasters in hotels always take so long? That must be why they're always cranked up to 5!

Doubtfuldaphne · 04/05/2013 19:43

Also, My dh likes to put the kettle on before going to bed so its quicker to boil in the morning!

TallGiraffe · 04/05/2013 19:46

What he needs is our toaster, you can lift it up to examine the brownness without cancelling the timer - amazing invention!

hackmum · 04/05/2013 19:52

Genuinely amazed at all these responses. Hasn't anyone noticed that the toast takes longer to cook when you put it on the higher setting? Also, how likely is it that something that heats up and cooks something so quickly is going to have the minute variations in heat settings that would allow it to differentiate between a lightly cooked piece of toast and a well-cooked one?
