I'm not, am I?

I was there today. It was flipping lovely. I unleashed my hidden materialistic self. I had a brief fantasy about what it would be like to have so much money that I could totally John Lewis my entire life.

Oh, and I bought four items.

I love it too. I can't afford to buy much there, but I think their customer service is so good and their products are high quality. I don't mind spending a bit more there, as I'd hate for it to go under. I love the cafe too!

cherryade8 · 30/04/2013 20:52

I love it too! I buy there even if it's cheaper on the net as I'd rather support a great high street institution. Great customer service!

John Lewis smells sooooo nice

Sigh.

I love shopping at JL at any time of the year. But I love going there before Christmas with DH and DD and just looking at everything. There is always something new to look at.

DD and I love the make-up counters and the handbags and the niche clothes area and the craft area and especially the baby area. Gorgeous clothes and the staff know all about the buggies and car travel systems...

I love Waitrose too. The food magazine is really good. I stopped buying CL and just have the free monthly JL magazine instead now.:)

Pleasesleep · 30/04/2013 21:02

I don't know.. They do lovely stuff but I've gone off them a bit since the sleep suits I bought for ds got loads of holes after just a few washes. I'm not overly impressed with the quality tbh.

GettingObsessive · 30/04/2013 21:05

I appreciate that some people haven't had the mostly brilliant experiences I have, but (and I have said this before possibly several times) I feel about John Lewis like Holly Golightly feels about Tiffanys - like nothing really bad could ever happen there.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 30/04/2013 21:07

usualsuspect is your local one the Highcross one by any chance? Lots of glass there and almost a clinical feel to it.

That said, I still love their stuff and dream of being able to shop there when I'm in one of my wistful, materialistic moods. It is especially lovely at Christmas.

FreudiansSlipper · 30/04/2013 21:08

i like the the bedding and the odd vase and some of the gifts

but the shops are dull just beige beige beige the one on oxford street is like all the other department stores apart from selfridges

i miss The Pier :(

amessagetoyouYoni · 30/04/2013 21:09

I am a secret JL Lover Grin ( secret because it is SO uncool...but...)

...I could spend hours in there if I had limitless cash, buying lovely bedroom stuff, knick knacks, clothes, cosmetics etc. its so cosy and reassuring and homely and has everything you could want or need.

Mrsrobertduvall · 30/04/2013 21:10

I adore JL. Everything In my house (virtually) is from there. All the white stuff, tvs, ipads, furniture.......
I have never had a bad experience and am more than happy to contribute handsomely towards their bonus.

awww thanks for this thread :)

I just bought two Ikon Snugglers there today! Nearly had a panic attack when I realised how much I had spent! But they are very comfy and I deserve them :)

And I love JL 'White' china range too... very cool :)

I am a touch biased as my son works there and I have a discount card (thank God!) :)

Yes I too love JL and Waitrose :)

bringonyourwreckingball · 30/04/2013 21:18

Nothing bad ever happens in John Lewis. When I am having a bad day I just go for a wander there at lunchtime to restore my equilibrium. I will never live anywhere without a John Lewis within a reasonable distance, it is my mark of a civilised society

myroomisatip · 30/04/2013 21:20

I just want to add that their service was excellent! :)

olivertheoctopus · 30/04/2013 21:21

I love it too. I have turned into my mother...

usualsuspect · 30/04/2013 21:24

Yes it's the Highcross one. Very clinical.

wtf1981 · 30/04/2013 21:28

Luffs it?!

Please, no!

usualsuspect · 30/04/2013 21:29

Years ago we had a Lewises before they went all upmarket in fact the old Lewises tower is still there. Now that was a great department store all rickety wood escalators, and the best Santa's grotto I've ever seen.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 30/04/2013 21:29

I used to make a special trip just to wander around it dreaming when I was first pregnant :) an oasis of calm and possibilities... Ahhh

wonderstuff · 30/04/2013 21:30

I love it. In Breakfast at Tiffanys she says she loves Tiffanys because it is so beautiful and nothing bad happens there. I feel like that about JL.

NiceTabard · 30/04/2013 21:30

In our family we don't do religion, we do john lewis.

I was indoctrinated at an early age.

When I go into a branch I feel a sort of lovely sense of calm and peace and all is right with the world wash over me.

I wish I was joking Hmm My mother is to blame.

usualsuspect · 30/04/2013 21:34

I prefer Fenwicks,it's proper posh in there.

PeppermintCreamsSaga · 30/04/2013 21:36

I went to the one at Bluewater today to buy a washing machine and got ignored. Sad Went to my local shop instead. Grin

NiceTabard · 30/04/2013 21:47

Having said that, DH and I have both worked for/in JL and we both disliked it.

cunexttuesonline · 30/04/2013 21:53

I saw it described on here once as a middle class argos which I found quite funny.

We did our wedding list there and so have quite a lot of their kitcheny stuff etc and the quality seems good. Customer service is good.
