To think that music videos will eventually depict real sex acts?

Not my view, but that of DH, said in a jokey way but it got me thinking.

It saddens me what young girls and boys can see in music videos on any of the easily accessible channels. I'm thinking of Rhianna (because of the furore over that 11 year old on BGT) but there are many other terrible examples like Kesha (or whatever the bloody hell she calls herself with that Dollar sign in her name) Christina Aguilara, Britney etc, etc. It's like they're competing to shock more and more - do they have to do this to sell music??

Also, just saw a very 'lively' debate on This Morning about educating 5 year olds about Pornography and it got me thinking about the whole thing.

Since having DD, I've become much more Mary Whitehouse about things like music videos (so has DH, hence his comment)

I really do sound like an 80 year old now! :)

Yanbu. It is disgusting, dd is a baby at the moment but I'm scared to think if what she may be exposed to in the future.

It's quite a thing in a lot of hip hop videos now anyway. My eldest DS was showing me worldstarhiphop and how lots of minor rappers are creating such videos and how skepta did that (although don't think he starred in it), think its works for them in terms of publicity.

I don't think it's necessarily that bigger issue. I don't censor music channels or what music the DC listen to, although might tell them not to screech certain lyrics at school.

The only issue I would have is that the majority of videos are all of the same ilk. If they were a bit more balanced gender wise I'd not feel music videos to be an issue.

That's nothing, go and find Khia - My Neck, My Back on Youtube

That song's quite old now!

I read some stuff recently about how mainstream pop artists are mind controlled. On one level it sounds crazy but I thought it made sense,

GoshAnneGorilla · 01/05/2013 23:19

With the Khia video, as verrry rude as it is, I do like the fact that it is a very average looking woman in her thirties singing it, as opposed to an airbrushed teenager.

In general, YANBU. I look at a band like Bananarama, hugely successful without ever having to do the panting sexuality Schtik - that would never happen now.

I wonder what they'll be like in say 70 or 80 years time, will they have broken the 'actual sex' barrier and started to revert? Will covered up be the new super hot? How far can it all go?

I remember wondering that when there was a thing about two teenagers having sex in Teen Big Brother (though I never watched it), just the general thought of, what will be the next taboo?
