AIBU?

..to think Game of Thrones is Coronation Street with tits and pelts?

I am only on episode six of series 1 but I have to say I am finding it interminably dull. Am I missing something here? The acting is shit; there's the ubiquitous (and puffy-faced) Sean Bean spouting forth in his Sheffield timbre; the fat bloke from The Syndicate sweating and bellowing all over the place; and I'm sure I've spotted Eric pollard in there somewhere, too. There are lots of whores, bathing and doggy-style sex (not to mention some rather unnecessary schlurping during the fellatio scenes) but very little else to capture the imagination.

What the actual fuck is going on? Where is it going? How come no-one's heard of the missionary position? What's beyond The Wall? Why is there a woman breastfeeding a twelve year-old? I'm so frigging bored of it all I'm only continuing to watch in the hope that Tyrone and Fiz turn up and get down to some bumming in Ye Olde Rovers Return.

Someone help me to see the light?

I'm just finding it amusing that the only thing you can think of whenever you hear a northern accent is "this is like Corrie".

catgirl1976 · 28/04/2013 13:34

Out of interest OP, do you think the North is 'like Corrie'?

Jewcy · 28/04/2013 13:42

Yes, the whole of the North is like Corrie. I know 'cos I live 'ere.

..I also believe the whole of the South is like Eastenders.

...and no doubt every woman in Wales is called Stacey and every bloke, Gavin.

I went with Days of Our Lives with swords, but yes - it is pretty much the same. Wink

catgirl1976 · 28/04/2013 13:46

Ahh..it's just my Southern MIL thought it was :)

On her first visit here she asked where all the mills and factorys were Confused

HobKnob · 28/04/2013 13:51

OP, I like you.

EmpressMaud · 28/04/2013 13:54

I haven't seen CS for decades, but it was rather pantomimic if I recall correctly. Game of Thrones is trashy, soft porn fantasy. The books grow progressively worse after the first one.

KirjavaTheCat · 28/04/2013 14:05

lol Jon Snooooo

mamapants · 28/04/2013 14:06

Jewcy+ where does one go to buy a sense of humour?

And for what its worth I've never enjoyed the missionary position so find a bit of the much more enjoyable doggy much more representative.

Trill · 28/04/2013 14:38

And all of the countryside is like Emmerdale :)

Apart from the bits that are like The Archers.

Jewcy · 28/04/2013 14:40

Hobknob, what a super nice thing to say Smile

Mama, you can buy a sense of humour at any good Northern joke shops. You know, where they sell plastic turds and that..

Speaking of turds, have you tried the wheelbarrow position, mama?

Jewcy · 28/04/2013 14:42

Trill, I can't watch Emmerdale and it's all down to Chas's fringe. It fucks me right off, it does

Jewcy · 28/04/2013 14:44

Jewcy · 28/04/2013 14:53

Hi all, I'm probably the only one not to have watched Game Of Thrones but after seeing trailer for this series it interested me, so I was wondering if you have to watch from first series to get the story to watch latest series?? :)

agilevangelista · 07/04/2015 20:34

we tried series 1 and gave up. then we tried series 2 and were hooked and watched everything on catch up over Xmas. can't wait for next series! my advice give up series 1 and try 2

cardibach · 07/04/2015 20:41

I enjoyed series 1, then on the strength of that read the books, which I also enjoyed. However, after reading I could Jo longer watch. TV version hopelessly over simplified and annoying!

cardibach · 07/04/2015 20:42

No, not Jo. Whoever she is.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 07/04/2015 20:43

You kno nothin OP....

Moln · 07/04/2015 20:51

How silly OP, Gavin wasn't from Wales.
BlueBananas · 07/04/2015 20:51

I watched the first series then DP carried on watching without me because he got sick of waiting for me to have the energy to watch
There's just so many people, so much nonsense talk, names that are ridiculously long, too many distracting boobies, I had to seriously concentrate watching it and I still don't think I understood Confused
I don't want to have to work that hard to be entertained
