To be so irritated by this thoughtless advert?

Normally adverts don't bother me, and I can take them in the way they are meant to be taken.

But I have just seen an advert for a text service, you know the kind that say text your name and his name to see how compatible you are etc.

But this one said something like 'worried if your partner is faithful?' 'Text true to xxxxx' to find out then showed the reply saying 'congratulations your partner can be trusted' can't remember the exact wording but it was along those lines.

I know the names ones are a bit of fun, but one about fidelity? Really? If I had doubts I wouldn't rely on this app to tell me, but some people might, and what if you have a text saying no they can't be trusted?

I know it's described as a fun app on the advert, and no doubt they cover themselves with the usual disclaimers but is it really funny to joke about with this sort of stuff?

I do have a sense of humour I promise, maybe it's just because I have my own suspicions at the moment that I feel more sensitive?

It makes me sad because unfortunately I think there is a risk of vulnerable people being drawn into believing it

Sad, but some humans will always be superstitious , usually vulnerable ones, Unfortunately if there was an attempt to legislate against profit from superstition, an almighty (no pun intended) would break out, with regards towards religion.

Tbh I think if they are covering themselves with clear disclaimers then that is enough. I don't think we should have to legislate for adults having no common sense whatsoever and being extremely gullible at the same time.

Where do you draw the line? 'Services' like this are ridiculous in my mind, but if people want to use them then they should be allowed to without being treated like children when they are not.

They are utterly stupid and I'd hope no one takes them seriously. They generally do have a disclaimer at the bottom saying 'for entertainment purposes only' or some other such drivel that unlatches them from any response.

I think the problem is most people can see them for what they are and, if they use them, see them for an extortionate joke. Unfortunately, not everyone has the capacity or ability to see past these types of 'service' and these are already the most vulnerable members of society.
