AIBU to tell DH his breath sometimes smells?

As the title says. DH sometimes has bad breath. Eg last night he went out drinking. When he came home from work today I'm not sure he'd brushed his teeth.

It's happened on other occasions too.

However I haven't the guts to tell him - not because he's controlling and scary, but because he doesn't take criticism well and we'll likely argue.

However it smells sometimes. He doesn't brush his teeth thoroughly enough IMO.

So should I tell him? And if so, how?!!!!

Ah just tell the guy, but not in a nasty way "ugh you stink!" How about "oh, your breath smells a bit today, maybe brush your teeth again?" Or "love you, but you need a mint" which was my friends way of telling me on a night out the other week! I would MUCH rather be told I needed a mint than have people shy away from me think "stinky mouth"

I can always tell when my DH has ulcers as it makes his breath reek. I tell him.

I get tonsil stones - they are vile. I check daily and if I see one, pop that smelly fucker out.

Always brush my tongue as well as teeth.

If it helps, I just tell my DP outright.

He seems to have an aversion to cleanliness for some reason. It got to the point where I refused to suck him off unless he had a shower. He keeps that area relatively clean now, but as far as the rest of him goes... I'm lucky if he showers once a week! Ditto with brushing his teeth.

Mostly I don't notice because a) he has a generally pleasant man-stink about him most of the time, and b) because I don't have much of an opportunity to actually smell his breath.

When I DO tell him, I tell him he's a stinky fucker who could fry chips with the grease in his hair. He laughs, then showers.

Learnt recently that the biggest cause of bad breath is food and plaque trapped on the surface of the tongue. The surface is a bit like a carpet. Men love gadgets so buy him a tongue scraper.

Imtoohecsy your link to that youtube video led me on a sporn binge which I have finally emerged from 30 minutes later. Phwoooar.

Back to the thread - definitely tell him, as soon as possible. From experience, the longer you leave it the harder it becomes to bring up, and something really insignificant becomes a huge thing...just be matter of fact and casual about it, tell him everyone has bad breath sometimes and say you hope he will do the same for you when you have it (which of course you won't as we ladies are fragrant and lovely at all times).
