Zombie just thought that cleaning, sanding and oiling is a good way to start. If that gives you the result you want then problem over. If not, you've at least nourished the wood before trying something else.

Hullygully · 24/04/2013 12:08

I always think: I could have done that. But I didn't. Damn them to hell.

Good plan zombie. I wanted to get it in the garden and blast at it with an orbital sander, but dh has hidden it.

do you know whether it is all veneered, or a mixture of solid and veneer? you have to be vair careful when attacking veneers. They can start to peel off if you are not gentle with them.

TheRealFellatio · 25/04/2013 14:31

is it any of these?

Hullygully · 25/04/2013 15:21

that link no work Fell

CarpeVinum · 25/04/2013 15:30

As the wife of an antiques restorer I feel qualified to say..

wot Maryz said.

Especially the Ikea bit.

Where there are no enourmous, dusty, dark, smelly, spider ridden, ugly lumps of furniture that take up half the room and offer the storage space comparable with that offered by a very small teacup.

TheRealFellatio · 25/04/2013 20:34

linky now worky

Hullygully · 25/04/2013 21:11

It's like the 60s sideboards

TheRealFellatio · 26/04/2013 04:27

Very nice. I want.

glastocat · 26/04/2013 04:45

I offer no help, but have just sent that link to my mother to boggle at the prices, she couldn't wait to get rid of all that horrible brown furniture as she called it. Grin

I KNOW

My sideboard is on one website all fancy and spruced for....£1300

OP posts:
Hullygully · 26/04/2013 09:22

I think it's a tad unrealistic tho. Manily 300 on ebay

It's one of those I Saw You Coming shops, for people who has loads of cash and just want instant hipster kudos. It has the whiff of the Pedlars about it.

But, hully, but, don't underestimate the time and skill and dedication required to restore a bit of good quality furniture really well. Some of those on Ebay will probably be in a right state if you look more closely, so you do have to pay a hefty premium if you want one all mint, like.

I'm going to have at it with the sander.

The trouble is I do have an astonishingly low boredom threshold so after ten mins will prob give up and have to stencil an entire meadow
