AIBU?

To think that plaits are just for school girls

Last night while my DH was plaiting my DD's hair he suggested that I would look good with plaits, he even "joked" that it would add a third hairstyle to my repertoire. After he finished with my DD he asked me to sit on the chair in front of him so he could do my hair, I made up some excuse and left the room. The truth is I was really uncomfortable with his suggestion, AIBU but in my head schoolgirls are the only people who should be allowed to plait their hair. Should I be worried, is this the kind of thing he's attracted to? What's next, will he be asking me to get my old school uniform out (which I luckily threw away when I left school)?

I had my hair in a plait yesterday...it can look nice. when my hair was really long and hippy-like I plaited it often.

My Gran wore her bottom length hair in a plait up to the day she died. She taught me how to plait, fench plait and corn-row hair before I'd even started school!

I wear my hair in a french plait most days for work - its that or a bun and I find a bun breaks my hair if I wear one for too long.

My DD also wears pigtails and as she is very small, she does look cute and gets away with murder because she is little and cute.

I agree that women with pigtails look RIDICULOUS and as someone said like they think they are CRAZY/wear Hello Kitty tops (haha, I think women with 2 plaits look just the same although I don't know why you would necessarily feel so uncomfortable with your husbands suggestion as maybe he was just messing about. One plait can look OK...

I saw a young woman/late teen with a gorgeous beehive type hairdo the other day with a plait coming out of it down to her waist. It looked fab, I would look a tit though..

LOL KansasCityOctopus - I'm reminded of a stage in my teens when I wore bunches for ages, with big flower hair bobbles...sticking up either side of my head....

Ooooh I was so cool then

Saw a friend of mine with pigtails recently-she looked fab imo.

Dresses retro & had them tied with "go gos/bobble"-whatever they're called.

She's 50btw!

I always plait my hair when I ride and I'm 36. It's only a hairstyle!

I'm 44 i don't even try for cute, i hate hello kitty and as for cupcakes don't even get me started but my hair is currently in bunches, i didn't have time to French plait it this morning and if i put it back into a ponytail my long fringe falls out but it stays in in bunches. Loose is not really an option when i'm working outside

On a serious note though

That's a huuuuge conclusion to jump to, that your DH might be into schoolgirls just because he wanted to try plaiting your hair.

Has he given you any other reasons to think this?

Well someone had to ask

so the rule is you can ONLY have plaits if you own dragons?

I've got really really thick hair so two plaits is the only way i can tie it up and get a helmet on for cycling or skiing. I also do it like that for camping and occassionally for yoga (can't lie flat on my back with a ponytail or single plait).

I think of it as an 'activity' hairstyle on adults - ok for sport, or camping or decorating type thing..

WorraLiberty I don't think my DH is into schoolgirls and sorry if i made it sound like that. I don't think men who like women in uniforms are all into kids, I just don't feel comfortable dressing up that way. Again I'm sorry if i gave that impression, I trust my DH and don't suspect him of anything like that.

How strange! Nothing wrong with plaits, I would plait my hair if it was thicker. My Mum has very long hair and still plaits it.

Bows in hair however, are for 7 year olds. Not adults trying to be Alice in wonderland.

It makes me so frustrated to hear of people not saying what they think and TALKING to their partners - why on earth didn't you tell him it made you feel uncomfortable, and then you could have had a discussion like adults that might even have put your mind at rest?

I think your DH sounds nice, first for plaiting your DD's hair which many men would claim not to be able to do and secondly for offering to do yours. It was a nice offer and I feel sorry for him that you walked out the room!
