detest that man, he cries at a funeral like this then goes back to ruining lives

utterly hate him

MarmaladeTwatkins · 18/04/2013 13:19

Seriously? That's your main concern about George Osborne, that some Mumsnetters are calling him by his given name? Sheesh...

FunnysInLaJardin · 18/04/2013 13:19

don't worry lboro I doubt he's a mnetter

lborolass · 18/04/2013 13:23

Haha, no, not my main concern but I think it can devalue valid points particularly as some people as seen above don't know who this is about.

As I said, I didn't see him crying so it's the only thing I can comment on Smile

Dawndonna · 18/04/2013 13:24

People are committing suicide because of the policies this man has instigated.
People are dying in a worried and confused state, not being given the option of dying peacefully because of these policies.
People are filling up mental health wards because of this man.
That is what is disgusting.

popuphairbrush · 18/04/2013 13:26

The irony in some of the anti Tory threads - the Tories are berated for being cold and heartless but some of the utter vitriol and sheer hatred coming from some posters is beyond the pale.

I agree that it's below the belt to mock someone's grief.

I also highly doubt that GO rubs his hands together in glee at home at night about all the lives he's ruining and it's puerile to imagine he does. I don't agree at all with his policies but I don't think he has some evil plan to ruin poor people's lives - I doubt he allows himself to think about the cause of his actions. Which is hardly commendable, but the pure poison directed at him unnerves me.

EldritchCleavage · 18/04/2013 13:27

Well, catsmother's powerful posts notwithstanding, I agree with MinitheMinx and Pagwatch

I am a terrible funeral crier. If I'd been there, I'd probably have cried, despite disliking Thatcher enormously. Poignancy, generation passing into history, finality of death, beautiful music, one's own generation a step closer to grave etc etc.

Iborolass, it also stinks of antisemitism, I really object to people calling him Gideon, it really, really does have antisemitic connotations to call him Gideon as an insult.

JuliaScurr · 18/04/2013 13:37

I enjoyed seeing Osborne cry. It was good.
More fun than seeing my uncle cry when his friend scabbed in the miners' strike.

Antisemitic? Hmm

Is George Osborne Jewish?

LemonBreeland · 18/04/2013 13:40

He is such a Gideon, much more than he is a George. And he does look like a waxwork.

squoosh · 18/04/2013 13:40

How about I call him the 18th Baronet of Ballintaylor then?

seeker · 18/04/2013 13:40

As I said earlier.
"Gideon Oliver was his given name. He changed it at 14. "Life is much easier as a George" he said.

I can't imagine what issues he and his peers could have had with Gideon.............."

I call him Gideon not as an insult, but to call him out.

LaVolcan · 18/04/2013 13:41

Is he Jewish? I hadn't realised. I suspect that underneath the surface toffs are a bit anti-semitic.

ExitPursuedByABear · 18/04/2013 13:42

I always cry at funerals.

Hth

Bridgetbidet · 18/04/2013 13:43

He's not Jewish. He may well have changed his name because he's a bit of an anti-semite himself. Call him Baronet of Birkenhead if you want. I just really don't like a Jewish name being thrown around as an insult like there is something wrong with having a Jewish name.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 18/04/2013 13:44

How is calling him by his name an insult, ffs? And an anti-semitic one at that?!

Jesus wept.

LaVolcan · 18/04/2013 13:44

Faure's Requiem is very moving.

We nearly always sing 'The Day Thou Gavest' at family funerals. I can never sing it now without tears, even in otherwise joyful church services.

squoosh · 18/04/2013 13:46

Good grief, the name isn't being 'thrown around as an insult' because it's Jewish, it's thrown around because that's his actual name. It's really quite simple.

FunnysInLaJardin · 18/04/2013 13:46

Is the name Gideon jewish then? You learn summat new every day

bettyfish · 18/04/2013 13:47

I have to say, that if I where to meet Gideon, I would give him something to cry about........

ComposHat · 18/04/2013 13:51

He's not Jewish and Gideon is his real name. ffs. His family are minor anglo-irish aristocrats as I recall.

How is that antisemitic?

MarmaladeTwatkins · 18/04/2013 13:51

Is your brain wired up wrong, Bridget?

His given name is being bandied about because he chose to change it, for whatever reason. Not because there's anything "wrong" with it. I happen to like the name (but prefer Gideon Coe to Gideon Osborne)

Sheshelob · 18/04/2013 13:52

Let's just all call him "cunt" and sidestep the accusations of anti-semitism then. It is his rightful name after all.
