She was our first woman prime-minister - a significant personal achievement, especially for the daughter of a grocer from Grantham, born in 1925 Shock

Also I agree with those that say these ceremonial occasions are something we do really well in Britain.

So AIBU to be watching this morning - in spite of disagreeing with many of her policies ? Will you be watching ?
And what do you make of both her personal achievement and her legacy ?

ChockyEggPants - totally agree - MT, as much as I didn't always agree with her, did what she thought was best for the country (but got it wrong a lot).

TB on the other hand did what he thought was best for TB.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/04/2013 11:13

Who is she? I missed it.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 11:13

Jill- does that include Tom Cruise and Boris Becker? We have an active self help group in AIBU if you'd like to join?

Bowlersarm · 17/04/2013 11:13

Confident girl. How old is she?

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 11:13

I want a private funeral with immediate family only. Def no church service and no people from outside the family.

lichfieldlass · 17/04/2013 11:14

Watching with a 4 and a 2 year old is interesting ... are they going to bury her with God? What's in the box Mummy? The lady? Mummy said its only her body. Is there no face or legs in the box? Look at the poor King! (no idea who he saw then!) Where are they going to bury her? Under the seats?

music starts 2 yr old pronounces "and now they're going to marry her!"

Snazzynewyear · 17/04/2013 11:14

Amanda Thatcher sounds American. Whose daughter is she and has she been growing up abroad?

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/04/2013 11:14

Thank you.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 11:14

Do you think Cherie is sat between Gordy and Princess Tone to be bouncer?

MsJupiterJones · 17/04/2013 11:15

Juggling - but also includes the line "I'll fear not what men say"

Well Amanda T's voice is a surprise.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2013 11:15

Mark thatchers daughter. Grew up in South Africa then America I think.

EldritchCleavage · 17/04/2013 11:15

NGT, you have made me laugh so much I coughed until I was dizzy.

Disclaimer: I only like moustaches on Paras and Marines. (And DH). And Tyrese. No idea why.

Where state pageantry is concerned, its us and the Indians topping the international league table. No one else comes close.

Anyone else remember the Belgians at the D Day anniversary shindig? Their uniforms needed ironing. The shame.

Snork, nottreadinggrapes...

WorraLiberty · 17/04/2013 11:15

I think her Granddaughter delivered that beautifully.

Bluebellina · 17/04/2013 11:16

lichfield Grin.

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 11:16

Grin lichfield.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/04/2013 11:17

Amanda Thatcher (her grand-daughter) did a great job with the reading I thought.
"Oh Lord, hear my prayer" also a beautiful choice, with the choristers.

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 11:17

Um, I'm half Indian, I wouldn't really say Indias good at pageantry.....
Unless you're all hoping Tone and Gordy will chuck themselves on funeral pyre at noon....

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/04/2013 11:17

lichfield Grin

skippedtheripeoldmango · 17/04/2013 11:18

Maroney - going to a service - I like that idea. Can't even begin to imagine what Xmas Eve service would be like!!!

Amanda Thatcher is a braver lady than I would have been - I'd have fallen to pieces.

Agreeing with TB being an oily, smarmy individual - I voted him in...and what a disappointment he was. Oh, here's Cameron - don't particularly like him but it must be hard being at a funeral - must bring back memories for him.

WorraLiberty · 17/04/2013 11:18

I really want to watch this at lichfield's house! Grin Grin

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 11:18

Anyone else finding this moving?
(And I'm an atheist...)

JillJ72 · 17/04/2013 11:18

(NTG - I have been to AIBU Not sure about BB; I grew up in Germany during the BB years, although he has matured OK).

The family have seemed remarkably composed, MT's granddaughter particularly so with the reading.

The chorale is beautiful. I love St Paul's.

landofsoapandglory · 17/04/2013 11:19

My Nan died at 87 of dementia, I cried my heart out at the funeral and on the day she died. I could hardly stand on the day, TBH.
